We’ll probably never see it

For months fans have been watching Metal Gear Solid V‘s cut “Mission 51,” hoping that eventually it would see the light of day. And with the “Definitive” edition of Phantom Pain coming soon, it seems like it would be a good opportunity for Konami to finish it, but that’s not the case.

In fact, Konami actually clarifies that it is “definitely not the ending,” and that “the ending [to Phantom Pain] isn’t and never has been missing,” — Mission 51 was canceled prior to Phantom Pain, and “is a prequel game to Metal Gear (1987).”

My initial prediction was that halfway through the story you would complete Outer Heaven, then subsequently assume control of Solid Snake as you made your way into the very base you created — but that never happened. Either way, I’m happy with Kojima’s last project at Konami, and I’m looking forward to his Reedus-filled future.
