Kojima is working on a new stealth espionage game, but details are slim

We have a name at least: Physint

In a blink or you’ll miss it moment at the end of the January 2024 PlayStation State of Play stream, Hideo Kojima confirmed that he was working on a new “stealth espionage” game, due after Death Stranding 2. I know!

All the Physint details we can muster

Sony isolated the announcement with the brief view below from their YouTube channel, and most of it just involves talking about the reveal.

We did get a bit of PR that we can glean some additional information from, even though it’s slim pickings. Kojima Productions has announced that the project will be “in partnership” with Sony Interactive Entertainment, and that “preparations are underway” for its development, which will “begin in earnest after Death Stranding 2.”

Curiously, Kojima specifically notes that he has been collaborating with Sony for some time (dating back to the Metal Gear Solid/PS1 era) and that Sony “also produce[s] music and films, and this will definitely be a strong collaboration.” Kojima boasts that this project will use “cutting-edge technology” and will sport a “stellar cast.” He mentions that this title will be the “culmination of his work” (nothing to read into from that phrase!), and calls it “an interactive game, but…also a movie at the same time.”

The video then zooms out to show an aerial view of Columbia Pictures studios, with the Physint logo emblazoned on the marquee sign. Sony seems to be sinking a lot of cash into this production, which is insane given that Death Stranding 2 already looks like a marvel based on an early trailer. Expect lots of Hollywood shine, from audio to video quality.

Is Kojima just going to make a Konami-free Metal Gear Solid?

So with all of the major motion picture hubbub and the Columbia Pictures tease, it’s obvious that Kojima will continue to hire Hollywood actors for this next project. The real question is: Does he just convince Kurt Russel to finally come aboard and make the true-to-life inspiration for Solid Snake?

We likely won’t hear more about this project until after Death Stranding ships (in 2025!), but for now, Kojima is up to his old tricks, building hype.
