Today,Ā Super Smash Bros. UltimateĀ director Masahiro Sakurai presented the final addition to the DLC roster: Sora fromĀ Kingdom Hearts. At the end of the presentation, he also confirmed that theĀ Kingdom HeartsĀ series is finally coming to Switch, in cloud versions.

Announced on stream and confirmed by Nintendo, threeĀ Kingdom HeartsĀ games are coming to Nintendo Switch through cloud gaming. They make up the bulk of Sora’s journey, fromĀ Kingdom HeartsĀ through several side games and journeys, all the way up toĀ Kingdom Hearts III.

Here’s the lineup:

  • Kingdom Hearts – HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX – Cloud Version
  • Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Cloud Version
  • Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind Cloud Version

No date has been given yet for their arrival on the Switch. Nintendo says more information on these games, including their release dates, will be announced later on.

Though the rhythm gameĀ Melody of Memory got a Switch release, this is the first time that the mainline series will be on the new Nintendo console. And whileĀ it’s certainly exciting to see the Kingdom HeartsĀ games make it to the Switch, it’s a little strange that all of them are cloud versions. It’s been a way to get more recent games, like Hitman 3,Ā Control, and the upcoming Dying Light 2Ā on the platform.

It also seems like having some of the older games not require an internet connection would’ve been nice. I’m still interested to see how Kingdom Hearts runs on the Nintendo Switch’s cloud streaming. The new OLED Switch launching this week will have a dock with a built-in ethernet port, so that should make streaming fairly easy.
