The newest installment of the Call of Duty series, Modern Warfare 3, launched its campaign early for Vault Edition owners. However, as is tradition in Call of Duty, can you expect any stealth missions in MW3?
The third entry of the rebooted Modern Warfare subseries of Call of Duty games, Modern Warfare 3 continues where Modern Warfare 2 ended. An illusive new threat, Makarov, has made his move. It’s up to Task Force 141, led by Captain Price, to stop him before it’s too late.
Whether you define the playstyle through sniping or hiding, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has stealth. It even has a stealth mission, though it’s not as intense or hard. As always, you can approach missions from a stealth perspective if desired.
SPOILER WARNING for those who haven’t played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s campaign.
Silent but Deadly
Most combat-focused missions in the game allow players to take a stealth-heavy approach. Usually, you’ll have one or both weapons suppressed, dampening gunshot noises. You can crouch and go prone, as well as hide in tall grass in order to stalk out your enemies. Remotely piloted drones can detect and tag threats around you, so you can avoid them and plan accordingly.
The previously mentioned stealth-focused mission is called Deep Cover. For the mission, you play Kate Laswell, a CIA agent and major ally to Task Force 141. In order to get vital chemical weapons intel from Yuri Volkov, Kate disguises herself as a soldier and infiltrates an enemy base in Verdansk. As your contact is within the base, you must not raise suspicions and stay away from people. If you get too close, they’ll start to shoot, and, only armed with a suppressed handgun, it won’t go well for you. You do get to use the handgun to down a soldier and a Major in order to get a keycard.
A small bit of the last mission, Trojan Horse, contains some stealth in the beginning. However, there are prompts to blend in, like taking photos and even petting a dog. It’s nothing as threatening as Deep Cover or extensive.
Outside of Deep Cover, stealth is a recommendation but not a requirement. For those who like to go in guns blazing, you may do so. However, it might be best to be prepared just in case things get a bit too hot. Sniper rifles are fairly common around maps, so if you see one, take advantage of it and pick off some enemies from afar. Later missions, like Gora Dam, have snipers, so it’s best to scope things out and make sure you get them first before they get you.
