Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the biggest games out right now, launching first through Steam Early Access — digital only. And for the casual fan or physical game diehard alike, you may be wondering about the RPG’s availability via tangible copy.
I’m an unashamed fan of collecting physical games — there’s something appealing about holding a case in my hands, reading the back, and admiring the cover art. In eras past, I got a kick out of reading manuals or marketing materials, but that seems to be a relic of a bygone age. In any case, the question stands: Is there a physical edition of Baldur’s Gate 3 for PS5? The answer is somewhat complicated.
Is there a physical edition of Baldur’s Gate 3 for PS5?
In the West, there is no physical edition as of writing this, meaning if you’d like to play Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5, you must do so digitally. However, if you happen to live in Japan, you can nab a physical copy courtesy of Spike Chunsoft when it drops on December 21, 2023.
It’s currently unclear if Larian Studios is planning a western release for the physical version or not. But the studio seems to be considering it, at least. On October 5, Larian’s director of publishing, Michael Douse, reposted a tweet asking if fans would buy a physical edition of the game, adding the phrase “bumping for interest.”
What’s included in the Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 Digital Deluxe Edition?
If you’d like to spend an extra $10, you can opt to buy the Baldur’s Gate 3 Digital Deluxe Edition for PS5. This bonus edition includes the base game, plus a new song pack, an exclusive dice theme, a new set of paintings, a stash of camping supplies and potions, a digital copy of the soundtrack, a digital artbook, and digital character sheets. In addition, you will also get several pieces of clothing, instruments, and weapons inspired by Divinity: Original Sin II.
If you instead decide to go with the base game only, you can buy the Digital Deluxe Edition DLC for only $10.49.
