Is Foamstars free-to-play?

It gets complicated.

The Splatoon-like multiplayer game Foamstars looks like a lot of fun as the game’s characters flow through foam. However, is Foamstars free to play?

Can you play a Foamstars free-to-play version?

A Foamstars free-to-play version is technically not available. However, according to the press release, if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, you can redeem a copy of the game until March 4.

After that period, Foamstars costs $29.99 after that period, but you’ll need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play online. With most multiplayer experiences like Fortnite, Rocket League, and Apex Legends permanently free to download, it seems dated to have Foamstars as a paid title. Hopefully, the game’s player base remains strong.

Free to play games like Foamstars

If you don’t have a PlayStation Plus subscription or a PlayStation system, there are some alternatives to Foamstars. The most notable game to mention is Ninjala. It carries a similar adorable art style to Foamstars and Splatoon but keeps a melee focus. It’s fairly entertaining, especially if you like the graphical style.

Ninjala definitely has the look of something I should be in love with,” said our review. “Itā€™s bright and colorful, and the world-building happening here is genuinely fun.”

Fortnite isn’t afraid to get goofy as well. It regularly features whacky weapons like the Boogie Bomb, Impulse Grenade, and the Easter Egg Launcher. It also has funny emotes you can unlock in the Battle Pass and in-game shop. I never thought I could make God of War‘s Kratos dance, but Fortnite has given that gift to us.
