Is Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS4 and Xbox One?

Larian Studio’s latest RPG looks absolutely stunning on the PC and soon PS5. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like previous-generation consoles are going to get the same treatment. Here’s everything we know about possible Baldur’s Gate 3 PS4 and Xbox One ports.

Will there be Baldur’s Gate 3 PS4 and Xbox One ports?

As of the time of writing, Baldur’s Gate 3 PS4 and Xbox One ports are not planned.

“I don’t think that current-gen consoles would be able to run it,” said executive producer David Walgrave to Eurogamer. “There’s a lot of technical upgrades and updates that we did to our engine, and I don’t know if it would be capable of being able to actually run on those things.” As this was said in early 2020, Walgrave was speaking of the PS4 and Xbox One. He did say, however, that “maybe it could run, but then we would have to tone down the textures and this and that and it wouldn’t look as cool anymore.”

Larian Studios seems to be struggling with even implementing Baldur’s Gate 3 split-screen co-op for the Xbox Series S, so it’s easy to assume that a PS4 or Xbox One doesn’t seem possible unless the developer strips that feature entirely (and potentially more).

Are there any games like Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS4 and Xbox One?

There are quite a few strategy RPG games like Baldur’s Gate 3 on last-generation consoles. One such example is the Divinity: Original Sin games. This original IP has a detailed story and unique ways to interact with the environment, just like Baldur’s Gate 3. It also has full multiplayer/co-op.

You can also check out Obsidian Entertainment’s Pillars of Eternity series. It’s highly rated among fans and critics alike. “The lore is well-written, and the story it describes is deep, mature, and interesting,” said our review of the original game’s Complete Edition. “That being said, this is very much a game for a certain type of player, and it’s unlikely to convert anyone who isn’t already a fan of text-heavy fantasy adventures.”
