How to Walk the Serpent’s Path in Starfield The Promised, Broken quest

A new path awaits you.

To be accepted into House Va’ruun, you must walk the mysterious Serpent’s Path. The challenge presents a series of ritualistic objectives, branding you with a new title. We’ll help you along this journey by showing you how to Walk the Serpent’s Path in Starfield The Promised, Broken quest.

Starfield Shattered Space DLC Walk the Serpent’s Path guide

Begin your Walk to the Serpent’s Path by speaking to Inaza Kaisir in the new Shattered Space DLC. Here, your companions cannot accompany you, leaving you to face the challenge alone. Each step you take presents an optional task that is part of the ritual. You have the freedom to choose whether to complete them or not, as I discovered in my two different playthroughs.

Either route produces the same results and rewards, meaning you can just blast through the path without doing them. But if you want to pledge your loyalty to House Va’ruun, you can do them just for fun.

Blow out the candles and cast aside your burdens

Once inside, take a left at the crossroads, where you’ll have the option to blow out the candles. Then, you must cast aside your burdens by getting rid of something in your inventory. I just went with a random item (like a mediocre weapon) that didn’t have any use for me, and it counted.

Take a leap of faith

Now, you’ll need to decide if you want to make a leap of faith. Either take a left to make the jump or use the pathway on the right to play it safe. If you decide to make the leap, try to get a running start since the gap will be pretty long. Fortunately, there’s a body of water underneath, so you won’t take damage if things go wrong.

Contemplate the Shrouding and Sacrifice the Groat

Continue on to trigger the optional Contemplate the Shrouding task. This task involves meditating in the poisoned water, which will inflict damage on your health. Use any medical supplies on hand to get rid of the status effect. A few buildings are nearby, which you can loot for more resources.

Eventually, you’ll need to make a drastic decision to sacrifice the Groat, a new animal introduced in the Starfield Shattered Space DLC. You don’t have to hurt this poor creature if you don’t want to, but you can still do it to prove your devotion to House Va’ruun. All that’s left to do now is to complete the ritual, utilizing the effigies around you.

What effigies should you choose in Starfield The Promised, Broken quest?

When it’s time to complete the ritual in the Promised, Broken quest, you must choose two effigies to determine your House Va’ruun title. NPCs will utilize this name when speaking to you, and it’s totally up to you what you want to be called (it’s more just for show and not something that will impact your journey). However, you’ll need to choose the right combination to get the one you want, showcasing the following effigy creations:

Effigy CombinationsTitles
Effigy of Devotion + Effigy of ObedienceReverent
Effigy of Devotion + Effigy of StrengthHarbinger
Effigy of Devotion + Effigy of PerseveranceDiviner
Effigy of Obedience + Effigy of StrengthArmiger
Effigy of Obedience + Effigy of PerseveranceAdherent
Effigy of Strength + Effigy of PerseveranceVindicator

Place down any of these effigy combinations to produce your specific title. Once the ritual’s done, speak to Malibor Dul’kehf and Ekris to complete the Promised, Broken quest in Starfield.

Upon completing the ritual and the quest, you will be rewarded with the Poison Reforged Va’ruun Schimaz Epic Melee, 350 XP, and 12,000 Credits. Use the rewards to help you through the next phase of the Shattered Space DLC. You’ll need it to gain access to the Scaled Citadel, requiring you to go to House Dul’kehf, House Ka’dic, and House Veth’aal.
