In the beginning of Fields of Mistria, you’ll have 10 spaces available in your Backpack. This may seem like enough, but once you’ve started to gather up all of your tools and food to build up your energy, you’re left with very little space for any resources you may find.
This could lead to you making frequent trips back home to store items in your chest, or otherwise selling or dropping items that you would preferably like to keep. Rather than doing this, there is a relatively easy way to give yourself some space to work with.
How to upgrade your Backpack in Fields of Mistria
If you want to give yourself 10 extra inventory spaces in your Backpack, taking your available slots up to 20, you’ll need to earn 1,000 Tesserae. This may not seem like much, but early into the game it can be difficult to build up this much money.
Here’s a few early tips to save up some funds in Fields of Mistria:
- Forage everything
- Berries and flowers may not give much, but they stack in your inventory and don’t take up much space, plus you won’t use up any energy while foraging
- Be brutal with what you sell
- Fiber, Hay and Wood are all good sources of income early into the game. If you’re not aiming towards crafting something, it’s worth selling the resources
- Pick up quests from the Request Board
- And I do mean every quest. Regardless of whether they reward Tesserae themselves, each quest will earn you Renown and the reward for increasing your Renown level is often bags of Tesserae
Once you’ve got 1,000 Tesserae, actually upgrading your Backpack is simple. Just head to the general store and interact with the sales board at the checkout. Navigate to the selection of Tools for sale (it’s the Axe icon) and there you’ll find a Bag Upgrade for sale.
Once purchased, you’ll need to unlock it by using it. Select it on your hotbar, then press E on keyboard to unlock 10 more slots. To navigate between the first ten and the second ten slots, you can now press Tab on your keyboard to switch between hotbars.
How to get a second backpack upgrade in Fields of Mistria
Once you’ve made your way through the Water Seal in the Mines and upgraded the General Store, you’ll be able to purchase what appears (at least for now) to be the final backpack upgrade. This will give you another 10 inventory slots, increasing your total on-player storage to 30 slots and giving you a total of three hotbars to work with.
