Remnant 2 is back at it once again with an exciting new expansion pack, The Awakened King, and one of its most notable new features is the all-new character archetype: the Ritualist. On that front, we’ve got some great news, because it’s delightfully easy to unlock!
Whereas Remnant 2 veterans may have already been trained to expect ridiculously complex archetype-unlocking methods, the simple truth is that the Ritualist is just really easy to miss. At the same time, it’s not anywhere as easy to miss as the base game’s Engineer was, so it’s nothing to fret about. Down below, we’ve outlined the entire process of getting the Ritualist, so just follow our lead and you’ll have an awesome new skillset in no time at all.
Getting the Ritualist in Remnant 2: The Awakened King
Obviously, the first thing you’ll need to do in order to unlock the Ritualist character archetype is to purchase The Awakened King DLC. The Ritualist is exclusive to this specific expansion, and you won’t be able to unlock it without having first made the purchase. This trend is likely to continue as Remnant 2 receives more DLC over time, so it’s worth keeping in mind if you intend to stick with the game.
Once you’ve made sure you have your very own copy of The Awakened King, you’re going to want to head on over to Adventure Mode and roll a new version of it. Back in the day, you just had the opportunity to choose between N’erud, Yaesha, and Losomn, the base game’s three main worlds, but now you’ll also have a special version of Losomn: The Awakened King campaign.
On your first go, you’ll have access to a unique, curated ‘One Shot’ version of the campaign, with certain fights and setpieces being guaranteed to appear. You will have to play the DLC’s campaign several times over to experience all of its content in the future, however, so don’t expect to get it all done in one go.
Reaching the Ritualist unlock area in Remnant 2
Once you’ve got your Adventure Mode ducks in order, you can begin The Awakened King campaign and play until you reach the Forlorn Coast area. Fair warning, though: the DLC campaign is on the harder end of the difficulty curve, with plenty of tense encounters and bosses you’ll need to chew your way through. In fact, expect to have to play through one randomized dungeon before you’re in the Forlorn Coast, and it might not be a breeze, depending on your build.
Once you’ve gotten to the Forlorn Coast, you’re going to want to go a bit deeper into the area, until you reach a large canal with the city built up on both of its sides. Look down and take note of the boats floating in the canal: you’re going to need to fight your way down to reach the Ritualist.
Now, you’re going to want to orient yourself towards the rocky outcroppings present on one side of the canal. There’s going to be a dark tunnel leading into a cave, and that’s where you need to be. Check the screenshot featured above to get a sense of what you should be looking for.
Killing the witch and the sacrificial pig
Once you’ve found the cave in your version of the Forlorn Coast, descend into it expecting a fight. At its very end, you’re going to interrupt an ominous-looking ritual where a powerful witch will be sacrificing a pig-dog to some end. If you were hoping to save the animal, don’t bother: the bugger will attack you alongside the witch as soon as you draw near.
Once you’ve got the witch and the pig-dog dealt with, look around for an item: the Ragged Poppet.
If you’ve already unlocked any of Remnant 2‘s baseline character archetypes, you’ll have a pretty good idea of what to do with this curio. Simply make your way to the nearest checkpoint and teleport to Ward 13.
Take the Ragged Poppet to Wallace, invest some hard-earned currency, and you’ll get the Cursed Effigy: the archetype engram for the Ritualist. Once that’s all done, the Ritualist will be immediately available for you to equip and start ranking up, and you’ll also be able to choose the Ritualist as your starting class for future characters.
Since the Ritualist focuses on the uptime and potency of status effects, it’s going to be the perfect archetype for players looking to buff their attacks and abilities to the max. Combined with archetypes such as the Archon or the Summoner, we could be looking at some exceedingly potent builds once the meta settles down. With that, you’re definitely going to want to get the Ritualist to stay on the bleeding edge of Remnant 2.
