How to unlock the Mines in Fields of Mistria

Danger and rewards lurk below

One of the first new gameplay elements available to unlock in Fields of Mistria is the Mines. Not only is this a rich source of Stone and various Ores, but it’s also a great opportunity to find a large number of artifacts to donate to the Museum.

Be warned, the Mines are filled with monsters who want to hurt you and it’s not wise to head down into the Mines without some preparation, such as cooking or purchasing some meals to replenish both your energy and health while you’re down in the darkness.

The Mines will only become accessible once you’ve reached Renown level 10 and increased your Town Rank to Stone. Once you’ve done this, you’ll receive a letter in the mail from Eiland, inviting you to meet both him and Errol outside the Mines.

To find the Mines, head to the Museum to the west of town and keep going west. A cutscene will trigger once you approach the entrance to the Mines, so you’ll know when you’re in the right place.

The Mines in Fields of Mistria will be very familiar to anyone who has tackled the Mines in Stardew Valley. The elevator is broken, but can be repaired by unlocking new elevator shafts every five levels. You must use your Pickaxe to destroy rocks inside the mines, and a ladder downwards will appear from underneath one of the rocks.

While in the Mines, you may come across colored rocks and Ore nodes. These can be mined using your Pickaxe to give new resources, or items to be sold such as Rubies or Sapphires. You can also use your Sword to break open crates and barrels to potentially find some items inside.

You’re likely to come out of the Mines with a lot of Artifacts and insects which can be donated to the Museum to earn Renown. As such, I’d highly recommend upgrading your Backpack before you try to enter the Mines to make sure that you’ve got enough inventory space to collect everything that you find.
