How to unlock the front gate in Lorelei and the Laser Eyes

The first puzzle in Lorelei and the Laser Eyes tells you everything you need to know about the game. You’ll make your way to the front gate, discover it’s locked, and then figure out how to unlock it with pretty much no instructions.

Don’t worry. This puzzle is easier to solve than it first looks. I spent 10 minutes walking around the opening area, confused about what I was supposed to be doing before I saw my first flash of color. Then things started to fall into place. How to unlock the front gate in Lorelei and the Laser Eyes

To unlock the front gate in Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, you first need to visit the right-hand side of the gate and find the dog with the red collar. The dog is holding a letter, so take it and read it.

The letter contains two important pieces of information you need. The first is the year 1962. The second is the fact that the letter discusses January 7th next year. The second part is a hint here, indicating you must add one year to the date this letter was written, meaning the year you actually need is 1963.

The year is actually the code you need for the padlock on the door of the gatehouse, which is to the left-hand side of the front gate. Input the code to this padlock, and you’ll unlock the gatehouse.

Once inside the gatehouse, pick up the Byte Seyes Gaming System from the table, then look at the board to check the letters. One of them makes a reference to subtracting 116 from the current year, which we now know is 1963. You can use a real calculator for this or the Byte Seyes Gaming System in-game to work this out. The code you’ll get is 1847, and you need to use it on the padlock on the electrical cabinet.

The final part of this puzzle is the electrical cabinet itself. The only clue you have is the number 2014, which is the number you need to reach using the dials and switch on the panel. To do this, turn the left-hand dial to 1153, the middle dial to 801, and the switch to 60. The sum you’re working out here is 1153 + 801 + 60 = 2014.

Pressing the panel’s button will unlock the front gate and allow you to progress into the hotel, where the bulk of Lorelei and the Laser Eyes takes place. Take what you’ve learned from this puzzle with you because you can apply some of it to the other puzzles you’ll encounter.
