Not quite the old typewriter you remember
Resident Evil 4 Remake revisits the beloved masterpiece and brings it to a modern age. As part of this, there are some changes and new additions, such as the new Resident Evil 4 Remake Chicago Sweeper SMG. Here’s what you need to do to unlock this unbelievably powerful gun.
How to unlock the Chicago Sweeper in Resident Evil 4 Remake
While the Chicago Sweeper is similar in name and prowess to the original Chicago Typewriter SMG, it differs quite a bit when it comes to unlocking it. As one of the most powerful weapons in RE4 Remake, players must complete the survival horror game’s “Leon A. Kennedy” challenge.
This challenge is far more in-depth than something like the stealthy assassin mission, requiring players to beat the game not once but at least twice. The challenge tasks players with beating the game on the Professional difficulty mode with at least an A rank rating.
Professional Mode requires players to beat the entire Resident Evil 4 Remake story once on any difficulty to unlock. It is the hardest mode in the game, having no auto saves and requiring players to perfectly parry attacks or it will fail.
But if you are able to master Professional Mode and beat it with at least an A rating, you’ll get the Chicago Sweeper SMG as a bonus weapon reward.
Chicago Sweeper SMG, explained
The Resident Evil 4 Remake Chicago Sweeper SMG works slightly different than its original version. In this remake, the special weapon is still one of the most overpowered in the game with an unlockable unlimited ammo perk. This perk turns Leon into an unstoppable machine that can keep firing nonstop.
That is, if you upgrade it all the way to level five for all three stats. Here are the power stats for each level and how to unlock each upgrade from the Merchant NPC:
- Level 1 Chicago Sweeper: 0.4 power (Default version)
- Level 2: 0.8 power. Costs 50,000 Pesetas
- Level 3: 1.2 power. 100,000 Pesetas
- Level 4: 1.6 power. 150,000 Pesetas
- Level 5: 2.0 power. 200,000 Pesetas
If you fully upgrade the power, ammo capacity, and reload speed of the Chicago Sweeper to level five each, you’ll unlock the unlimited ammo perk for purchase. Buy this perk for 10,000 Pesetas or use an Exclusive Upgrade Ticket at the Merchant. With that, you’ll never have to worry about running out of ammo or reloading ever again.
Longtime RE fans may notice that the Chicago Sweeper differs slightly in design from the original Chicago Typewriter from Resident Evil 4, and it lacks the the overwhelming 10.0 power stat it had back then.
