Remember when Ser Charibert declared, “sickness must be purged”? He was definitely talking about this grind. If you’re chasing Final Fantasy XIV’s hulking Wivre mount, you’re gonna need to farm tons of Fates or have plenty of Gil on hand.
FFXIV’s Wivre mount and Bicolor Gemstones
The big FFXIV beastie is up for grabs in Mor Dhona from the Bicolor Gemstone Vendor, Edelina (X:22.2, Y:4.9). The NPC offers items in exchange for any Bicolor Gemstone vouchers you’ve acquired.
Bicolor Gemstone Vouchers cost 100 gem tokens each. You’ll need 500 vouchers, or 50,000 Bicolor Gemstones in total to buy the Wivre mount yourself. Fortunately, the vouchers are tradeable; you can buy them on the Market Board if you’ve got the Gil, but they’re often pricey. |
If you still need Bicolor Gemstone Vouchers, you’ll need to reach Shared Fate Rank 3 in all Endwalker Zones. The vendors offering the new Gemstone tokens unlock in both Radz-at-han and Old Sharlayan after maxing out all six Endwalker zone ranks.
It’s a lot of Fate Farming, but if you don’t want to do all that, vouchers are tradeable. You can just buy your way into owning a Wivre Horn.
How many Fates do you need for the Wivre?
Let’s assume you get the full credit for every single Fate; that’s 3,572 Endwalker Fates total. In FFXIV, each Endwalker Fate rewards 14 Bicolor Gemstones upon completion, while older Shadowbringers Fates yield 12.
If you don’t receive full participation credit for the encounter, FFXIV may reward any number of Gemstones fewer, including a single measly gem. I reckon that’s better than nothing, but it still stings like the in-universe equivalent of an arcade machine spitting out a single paper ticket you accidentally rip trying to retrieve it.
The best places to Fate Farm in FFXIV
Endwalker’s Ultima Thule or Elpis maps are hands down the best places to farm Fates. Elpis is the faster of the two, as it doesn’t force you to level sync down, and encounters include weaker enemies. If you’re stuck going at the grind as a one-man army (or two, summon your Chocobo), go here.
However, Ultima Thule is another good option. There’s a Special Fate that spawns in this zone; you’ll know it’s in town from all the players shouting, “Chi popped,” and the encounter nets you 60 Bicolor Gemstones. The boss also drops its own tokens, Chi Bolts, bringing you closer to another mount for the collection.
In Ultima Thule, Fates will hit a little harder at Level 90, but I recommend always throwing up an open party in Party Finder wherever you go. You never know, a lonesome player or two may join for a couple of rounds, and that’s better than nothing if you’re grinding out 3,572 of these things.
