How to unlock Dawntrail Artifact Gear in FFXIV

Accessories not supplied

Towards the end of your journey in Dawntrail, you may notice a lack of stats thanks to the jump from Tomestone gear to basic, leveling gear. Thankfully, Final Fantasy XIV is nothing if not generous, and the answer to your iLvl prayers lies in Artifact Gear.

Dawntrail Artifact Gear is, forgive me for a moment, absolutely beautiful. It’s been a few expansions since I didn’t feel the need to immediately glamour over the gear, but this time around, I left it as is. Aside from that, it comes with an iLvl of 678 at level 99, increasing to 690 when you hit level 100. Yes, this gear is self-adjusting – but how do you get it?

The bad news is that Artifact Gear in Dawntrail is locked behind a level 99 MSQ quest, but the good news is that the quest arrives right before you desperately need the gear. No spoilers, but you’ll be immensely grateful that you have the boost in iLvL in the next fight.

You’ll need to complete the MSQ quest ‘In Pursuit of Sphene’ before Artifact Gear unlocks. Koana will tell you that he has prepared something for you, and this gift is second to none.

Follow him to the Bayside Bevy, then head to (X:12.4, Y:12.8). Here, a new vendor will have taken up residence in a previously empty stall. Mewazunte is your go-to guy for all Artifact Gear, so once you hit level 99 in a new job, you’ll want to pay him a visit.

The best part about Artifact Gear is the price. You won’t have to spend a penny, as all Artifact Gear is free of charge – a complimentary service for all you’ve done during the expansion, if you will.

Once you’ve picked up your first set of Artifact Gear in Dawntrail, you may want to dye it and really make it your own.

This capability is locked behind completing your Role Quests. Each Role Quest completed to level 100 will unlock the ability to dye the corresponding sets of Artifact Gear. Completing the Physical Ranged DPS Role Quests will unlock the ability to dye all of the Physical Ranged DPS Artifact Gear sets, for example.
