How to start the Remembering the Past Questline – FFXIV

Plus how to get the End of an Era Framer's Kit.

With a new update on the way, you’ll want to tackle Final Fantasy XIV’s tribute to fallen heroes in The Rising as soon as possible. However, it seems the MMO also added a new, permanent side quest as an ode to Louisoix Leveilleur with Remembering the Past.

Below, we’ll explain where to begin the FFXIV Remembering the Past questline, along with its rewards.

Where to begin Remembering the Past

Before you go searching for the FFXIV 6.48 addition, you’ll need to finish the Main Scenario Quests up until The Ultimate Weapon. In other words, just finish A Realm Reborn’s 2.0 story. Additionally, if you want to understand all of the new side story’s context, complete the Bahamut raid series.

When you’re ready, teleport to Ul’dah and speak to Nananji (X:8.9, Y:9.1) to begin Remembering the Past. He’ll explain his journey chronicling the Archon’s storied past and The Calamity.

Then, you’ll visit various locations around Eorzea for interviews, taking you through locations like Camp Drybone, Gridania, and Limsa Lominsa. Upon wrapping up part one, speak to Nananji again for the second and final quest, Preserving the Future.

The second quest takes you around the Moraby Drydocks, then finally back to Ul’dah for the finale. Once you’ve heard all of the tales from those who knew or met Louisoix, it’s time for Nanaji to begin his work.

Completing Remembering the Past and Preserving the Future is how you get the End of an Era Framer’s Kit in FFXIV. It also earns you The Man, The Myth, and The Legend achievement.

Is Remembering the Past a seasonal quest?

In Patch 6.48, The Rising seasonal quests also added Remembering the Past nearby. However, the two don’t seem directly linked, and this quest was added as part of the 10th Anniversary celebration for A Realm Reborn. That being said, it doesn’t appear that Remembering the Past is only here for a limited time.

Ultimately, it’s not clear if the quest will go away in future patches, but it seems like a permanent addition to familiarize players with some of the events from Final Fantasy XIV 1.0. That’s the version of the game you no longer have access to, but the story ties into the world we know today.
