How to solve the sheet music puzzle in Another Code: Recollection

Music to my ears.

Another Code: Recollection really goes off the rails in remaking Trace Memory. It deviates quickly, presenting entirely new puzzles. While these puzzles arenā€™t difficult, they can be rather unintuitive. Case in point: hereā€™s how to overlay the sheet music.

Among the items you collect in Henryā€™s Study, one of them is sheet music. D tells you that itā€™s involved in unlocking a secret with the piano. You need to take it to the piano, place it on the music stand, then play the initial bar. However, D will say it doesnā€™t sound right, and Ashley agrees, pointing out that the second bar is empty.

Double back to Henryā€™s study. On the wall near the door is a picture of a hummingbird. If you examine the picture, youā€™ll notice thereā€™s a bar of music above it. However, neither Ashley nor D will do anything with it. They wonā€™t jot it down, they wonā€™t rip the picture off the wall and put it into inventory, so you might wonder how to get the obvious second bar onto the music sheet.

Once the camera zooms back out from the music bar, but while still in examination mode, open your camera with ZL and take a picture. Now, go back to the music room and examine the sheet music. Take a picture of that, too.

Now open the DAS and go into your pictures. If you hover over the portrait picture, you might notice a prompt at the bottom of the screen that says ā€œY Overlay.ā€ Press the Y button, and youā€™ll be taken to a previously unused menu. The picture you selected will already occupy the top space, so youā€™ll just need to select the picture of the sheet music. You then need to move the picture until the hummingbird overlaps, at which point, the game will automatically take control and let you know that the music is complete.

Now, when you go to play the music, another bar will appear. This, too, is somewhat unintuitive. You need to play the button prompt and press the direction on the d-pad at the same time. You canā€™t use the analog stick, and you need to press the button and direction simultaneously. Itā€™s not too picky about timing, but it may take a couple passes before you get it right.

After that, you look at the box on the floor, and youā€™re on to the next chapter.
