How to solve the graveyard candle puzzle in Hollowbody

I was pretty unhappy to see this puzzle in Hollowbody. Without knocking the game, the whole backtracking through the park thing left me in a sour mood, so having to stop to look at graves didn’t do anything to improve my mood.

Once you’re out of the apartments, it’s a short jaunt to the park. Once you’ve gone through the lady with the lock in her chest, you’ll be in a graveyard. In the church beyond that, it’s a dead end. Except, there is a table with candles on it. This is the puzzle to proceed.

I’m going to give you clues on how to solve the puzzle yourself, but the full solution is at the bottom.

How to solve the graveyard candle puzzle in Hollowbody

To solve the candle puzzle in Hollowbody, you’ll need to look at all the exhumed graves in the cemetery. If you’re astute, you’ll already have noticed that the exhumed graves have names on them, and these names correspond to the candles on the table.

There are a few ways you might mistakenly interpret this. You might think it’s opened or closed caskets. Or maybe you think the graves might be in some sort of order. For the true solution, you’ll need to look at the lanterns that are beside the graves.

The lanterns will either be lit or dark. Got a notepad? You’re going to want to write down each of the ten names and whether the lantern next to them is lit. If you have a really great memory, you might be able to avoid using a pen, but I’m not on that level. If that sounds like it sucks, I’ll just tell you the proper order.

To solve the candle puzzle in the church in Hollowbody you need to light some select candles. I’m going to list out the names you have to light and give you a screenshot of them lit (above). Any names I don’t list should remain unlit.

Once you’ve lit those candles, a floor will slide open on the other end of the church. Note that I’m assuming this puzzle isn’t randomized. Nothing about Hollowbody suggests to me that there are any random elements, but I’ve been fooled before. If nothing else, I’ve at least told you how to find the solution.
