There are a lot of choices to make inĀ Baldur’s Gate 3, including how and where you spend points when you level up. This might seem daunting at first, with all the possibilities laid out ahead of you. Thankfully,Ā Baldur’s Gate 3Ā makes it pretty easy to respec and try again if your build isn’t working out.
Respec is the common phrase for resetting and redistributing a character’s skill points or other specialization options. WithĀ Baldur’s Gate 3Ā running on Larian’s own interpretation ofĀ Dungeons & Dragons 5EĀ rules, there are plenty of ways to customize and differentiate your adventurer. But Larian Studios also allows players to respec inĀ Baldur’s Gate 3Ā if they want to walk it all back.
Respec through Withers inĀ Baldur’s Gate 3
You only gain the ability to respec inĀ Baldur’s Gate 3Ā once you’ve met the NPC Withers, who you can either find in a sarcophagus in the Dank Crypt during Act 1, or will just show up in your camp.
As for Withers showing up at camp, the exact time is unclear; Withers showed up in my camp after I completed the major quests surrounding the tieflings, druids, and goblins in the first major area. It’s unclear at the moment what the specific trigger is that causes Withers to show up. Just keep an eye on your camp every time you head back, and look for new visitors.
Once has shown up, Withers offers a variety of services, including the ability to respec. Just give him some requisite gold, and you’ll be able to swap up what abilities you’ve learned and branches you’ve chosen through the “change my class” option. It’s a pretty handy feature to have.
Withers offers other services too
Alongside hosting the respec options in Baldur’s Gate 3, Withers also has two other handy features. You can pick up hirelings, who can fill out your party if you’ve got some compositional gaps. He can also bring a party member back from the dead, if they’ve fallen somewhere.
