How to refund a game on Steam

How to get your money back (if possible).

Steam is the biggest PC games storefront, as the platform hosts hundreds of thousands of games. With so many games to try out, there can often be cases where we just are not quite happy with our purchase or have made the decision to return the game and get our refund. Oftentimes, it can even be an impulse decision to get that new name and realise a little too late that youā€™ve got a dozen games pending already.

There are many other reasons why one might want to refund a game on Steam, and it is a good thing that Valve is generally quite friendly about its refund policy. Valve issues return for any game that has not been played for over 2 hours, and the gameā€™s refund must be requested within 14 days of purchase.

If both those criteria are fulfilled, gamers should have no problem refunding a game on Steam. Moreover, Valve says that even if the game you want to refund does not fit those two parameters, you can still submit a request and get in touch with Valve about a refund.

How to refund a game on Steam

  1. Open Steam, and head to the Steam Help section.
  2. Log in to your Steam account.
  3. Click Purchases.
  4. Select the game or DLC you wish to refund on Steam. If the purchase is not in the list, this means that it falls outside of the refund window, and it is ineligible for a refund.
  5. Select one of the problems listed on the page that youā€™re having with the game or DLC.
  6. Then, click Iā€™d like to request a refund.
  7. Enter the necessary details such as where you want the refunded amount to be cedited. This can be your original payment method or your Steam Wallet.
  8. Click Submit Request.

Once you fill in the details, you will receive an email from Valve that confirms your refund request has been submitted. You will receive a response from Valve regarding your request in some time, which will either notify you that the request has been accepted or the email will explain the reason why the request has been denied. If your refund request is not accepted, you can reach out to Valve for more information.
