After all, the athletes are what makes up the strength of your program over time. While having good squad depth is necessary, you may end up having too much wealth in a few positions. The ability to redshirt players will help manage your squad without having to sacrifice their development. While this is pretty easy to do within the game, there are some challenges you should be aware of.

College Football 25 redshirt guide

When you utilize the redshirt status for an athlete, they can earn one more collegiate year to gain more experience and development. This can be done when the players are in their Freshman year, but there are certain conditions. First, let’s take a look at the process of applying for special status.

  • Load your Dynasty mode save.
  • Use the R1 button to scroll right and go to the “Team” tab.
  • Scroll down to the option on the bottom that says “Redshirts”.
  • This section shows your entire squad. Eligible athletes are highlighted.
  • Go to an eligible athlete on the list and press the X/A button to submit.
  • An icon will appear on the left of the athlete’s name.

There are conditions, though. An athlete can earn this status only once in their collegiate career. Additionally, they can play up to four games in their Freshman year. If they appear in more games than that, their Redshirt status will be lost. In fact, when you try to move such an athlete up the depth charts, the game will pop up a warning.

While this is a valuable way to secure some of your talents for the future as a coach, there’s the Transfer Portal, which goes live at the end of a season. One or more of your more prospects could take their talents elsewhere if their expectations aren’t fulfilled. Be aware of that if you’re hoarding too many gifted athletes who want playtime in your squad.

The process to apply for redshirt status is also available on Road to Glory in College Football 25. But it’s less certain, as you play the role of an athlete. Gaining the status depends on several factors that you won’t be able to control, unlike in Dynasty mode.
