Fortnite split-screen mode is supported on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. You won’t be able to use the mode if you’re playing the game on a PC or the Nintendo Switch. It’s also not supported on mobile, or for Creative, Save the World, Ranked, Solos, or Limited Time modes.

Steps on how to play split-screen mode in Fortnite

Fortnite split-screen mode is available to play in the Battle Royale Duos or Squads game types. Open up the game and start a lobby with one of the mentioned modes. Here’s what to do next:

  • Plug in or wirelessly connect a second controller while in the lobby
  • Have the player select an account and sign in
  • Hold down either the triangle button on PlayStation or the A button on Xbox to make the second player load into the open lobby
  • Once you start a match, Fortnite will automatically swap to split-screen mode

As mentioned, you can only play Fortnite split-screen mode on Xbox or PlayStation. Those on other platforms will have to play with friends on their own devices. You can also organize a LAN party. Do people still do those? The last time I was at a LAN party someone ate all the Hot Pockets and just killed the mood.
