However, this doesn’t mean you have to play with random players if you prefer to play locally with your friends and family.
To play Party Animals in couch co-op mode, you’ll need to create or join a lobby. The process is straightforward and allows you to lock out online players, ensuring you only play with your chosen companions. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
- From the main menu, select “Custom Game.”
- Click on the yellow color “Create” button at the top right corner.
- Select the game modes and map you want to play, and click on Create.
- If you want to keep your game strictly local, set a password by clicking on the lock icon at the right top corner of the screen.
- Add the second player’s controller, give the permission, and you are ready to jump in.
Now that you’ve successfully set up your lobby, you can customize your game further by adding bots. Simply select the robot icons over each team to add them. When you’re ready, start the match and enjoy playing with your local multiplayer companions and bots. Alternatively, you can choose to compete against each other in a fierce battle. The developers know this is a bit silly
The developers have responded to this workaround of having to select online play to play offline in couch co-op. Here is the crux of their statement, from Steam (emphasis ours):
“Our intention with this sentence was to convey that you can play with your friends remotely (online), or together in the same location using the same device (offline) through split-screen. However, it seems this statement led some players to believe that Party Animals supports an offline mode. We regret the misunderstanding and wish to clarify that the game does not have, nor do we plan to introduce, an offline mode.
Party Animals currently requires an online connection to play. To prevent further misunderstandings, we have revised the game description. The controversial sentence has since been replaced with the following: “Paw it out with your friends remotely, or huddle together for chaotic fun on the same screen.” We sincerely apologize for any confusion our wording caused. It was never our intention to mislead our player base about the availability of an offline mode.
The game did not feature an offline mode in the recent three rounds of playtesting either. Intentionally misleading our players while conducting playtests that clearly reveal the absence of an offline mode would be nonsensical. (We admit, however, that our description could have been more thoughtfully wordedā¦) Lastly, we hope this does not sound like an excuse, but English is not our first language, and sometimes we fail to realize when our phrasing might lead to misunderstandings.
