How to pass time in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'.

If you’ve been waiting impatiently for a rainy day to up the rarity on a needed material in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, we have good news. You can pass time in Avatar: FoP, making the hunt for just the right weather conditions as breezy as a… breeze.

For its merits, Avatar: FoP isn’t always clear on all its niche systems and features. For example, you can change your Na’vi’s look and body type even after starting the game. This wasn’t something I was sure about until I stumbled on the object that lets you edit your character’s body. The game does clue you on the time-changing feature, but there’s a chance you glossed over it.

Go to a base camp to pass the time in Avatar: FoP

Passing the time is an incredibly useful feature in the game. Hell, one could say it’s among the most necessary mechanics. To pass the time in Avatar: FoP, you need to find a ‘Resting Spot’, usually a sitting fire in a base camp, and hold the activation button down to ‘Pass time’ when you see the prompt appear. This fast-forwards the time by a handful of hours, letting you change it to morning, afternoon, or night. Changing the time can also alter the weather. You could end up on a cloudy day, or a thunderstorm at night.

You can usually tell at a glance what the new time and weather is like in the world around you, but there is a way to check. After you pass some time, open up the world map and look at the bottom-right section. To the left of the compass is where you can see the current time and the weather conditions.

Why do you need to change the weather?

As I mentioned before, changing the weather in the game is incredibly important. When you need to hunt or gather crafting materials, you can up their rarity by getting them in certain areas and the right conditions. Some materials will increase in rarity based on whether if it’s raining, or if it’s night, or both. Changing the time of day means crafting more powerful weapons and armor.

Like with many Ubisoft games, Avatar uses level scaling for its enemies. If you want the absolute best gear to help you fight your foes, then knowing how to take advantage of the time-changing mechanic is a must. I make sure to do it every time I’m about to go hunting for crafting materials. Think about it: If the RDA is coming at you with mechs, why take the chances with low-level equipment?
