How to mount Koraidon/Miraidon in The Teal Mask

Just finish one trainer fight and you're good to go

Directly after you enter the new land of Kitakami in the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Teal Mask DLC, you might instinctively press “+” to mount Koraidon or Miraidon: but you’re out of luck! The DLC doesn’t let you mount immediately, but you will unlock the ability to do so very quickly. Here’s how.

Mounting Koraidon/Miraidon is unlocked shortly into the DLC

After you gain control of your character, Briar will ask you to head to Mossui Town, which is one of the main hubs in Teal Mask. Just walk up Kitakami Road and enter the town: a short cutscene will play that introduces Kieran and Carmine, two key figures in the DLC. You’ll need to battle Carmine to unlock the right-to-mount.

Here’s what Pokemon Carmine uses:

  • Poochyena (Level 60 [max – scaled to badge progress])
  • Vulpix (Level 60 [max – scaled to badge progress])
  • Poltchageist (Level 60 [max – scaled to badge progress])

After defeating Carmine (which will earn you $3,360) and speaking to the Caretaker NPC, you’re good to go! You can immediately mount and explore Kitakami with your companion, even though the game doesn’t explicitly say you can do so.

We recommend turning around and going back down Kitakami Road to explore, even though the next portion of the main quest is in Mossui Town. Now that you can quickly mount and run/jump around, you’ll be able to collect some useful items/TMs in the starting area.
