How to merge or transfer accounts in Warframe

Time to take your farming adventure to a new platform.

It’s been a long time coming, but Warframe is about to offer players a chance to merge multiple platform accounts into one. This will allow those who played Warframe across several different platforms to combine their inventories and progression into one account. But, there are some caveats in place.

Notably, Warframe developer Digital Extremes has provided an explanation of how the game’s account merging/transfer feature will work. To begin with, it’s a one-and-done sort of deal, where you’ll need to carefully define which of your accounts is the main, and which ones would be secondary to it. This is important because the choice dictates the specifics of what’s getting carried over into your universal Warframe cross-platform account, and you do not want to lose your valuable content roster here.

One-time Warframe account merge explained

Digital Extremes has been working on cross-platform save and progression for Warframe for years at this point, and the fact that the feature is about to roll out is phenomenal news. There’s some complexity present here, however, and it’s certainly worth getting through the process correctly.

Firstly, only accounts made before November 24, 2023, will be eligible for Warframe‘s account merge. Secondly, players who want to go through with the merge will need to select one of their Warframe platform accounts as the ‘Primary Account,’ which will carry over Quest and Mission progress. All of your other Warframe platform accounts will be designed as ‘Secondary’ from that point onwards, and when you roll them into your Primary, you will receive their respective Items, Customizations, Resources, and Currencies only.

This is, naturally, a one-time process. Once you’ve merged your accounts, there won’t be a way to access the disparate platform profiles anymore. Instead, you’ll be able to continue progressing Warframe cross-platform at your own behest. You can check your Warframe account merge eligibility at the official website right now.

What items are not being merged?

There are some other caveats to keep in mind here, and they’ve got to do with platform-exclusive skins and Platinum. It would seem that all of the following skins will not be accessible on PlayStation:

  • Nintendo Switch Warframe Opal Skins
  • Discord Warframe Amethyst Skins
  • Xbox Warframe Jade Skins

Conversely, the PlayStation-exclusive Warframe Obsidian Skins will not be available on any platforms other than PlayStation. And, similarly, all of the following PC-exclusive skins will remain accessible only on PC:

  • Phased Skins
  • Rubedo Skins
  • Rixty MOL Skin
  • IAHGames Braton Skin

Finally, Digital Extremes has also confirmed that the legendary Excalibur Prime, Skana Prime, and Lato Prime will stay locked to the PC.

In regard to Warframe‘s premium currency, any Platinum purchased on Nintendo Switch will remain permanently locked to the Switch. While items purchased using the Nintendo Switch Platinum will be readily accessible on any other platform after the merge, the currency itself won’t be going with you across different platforms.

TennoGen items complicate things further

Setting aside Digital Extremes’ own premium cosmetics and currencies, there’s the TennoGen community content to take into consideration as well. These items are specific in that they will be affected by the cross-platform transition in a unique way: “Any TennoGen purchases made before November 24 at 2 p.m. ET will transfer to any platform as a result of the One-Time Account Merge. That means that the pieces that are already a part of your collection will be available to you on any platform you play on,” says the announcement. “TennoGen purchases after November 24 at 2 p.m. ET will be affected depending on the platform it was purchased on. Steam purchases are locked to PC, and console purchases will be locked to all (licensed) console platforms.”

This, according to Digital Extremes, has been done to “limit the impact to TennoGen artists, while respecting historical console purchases.”
