How to join a Fortnite tournament

Climbing up the ranks, now with a monetary incentive.

If you think you are good enough at Fortnite that even the Ranked mode isnā€™t enough to prove your worth, there is another option. There are periodic tournaments that allow you to compete for cash prizes. Though it isnā€™t as advertised as other modes in the game, this is how to join a tournament in Fortnite.

Before you can enter a tournament, you should make sure you complete or have the following:

  • Verify your Fortnite account email
  • Enable two-factor authentication
  • Set your gameā€™s aspect ratio to 16:9 (consoles excluded from having to adjust this)
  • Be 13 years or older
    • If you are between 13 and 17, you have to have parental permission
  • Your account must be at least level 15
  • *Your rank in competitive modes may determine eligibility

With that out of the way, head to the ā€œCompeteā€ tab in the main menu. There will be a handful of tournaments. There are platform-specific ones, while there are also more general ones.

Itā€™s important to check the dates and times when these start. Oftentimes, you may be able to select the events, but they are not unavailable due to them having finished or not starting yet.

You can check when the next tournament session starts on top of an eventā€™s graphic. Itā€™ll tell you that some events will start in a number of days. Itā€™s good to plan around that if you want to participate and potentially win money if you climb the ranks far enough.

The format and ruleset for most of these modes will be just like the Competitive and Arena modes. Itā€™ll be a standard battle royale with 100 players with standard gravity and HP values. Overshields and respawns are disabled. Also, depending on which mode you go for will determine if building is allowed or not.
