How to hide your helmet in Baldur’s Gate 3

When I start any RPG, I immediately look for the option to hide my helmet. Look, later on in the game when you have access to nearly every type of hat/helm/mask, and you have the instant option to look super cool at any given time, I’m keeping that helmet on. But when you’re kicking off an adventure, I’d rather not have my Paladin wear a silly-looking straw hat. Here’s how to hide your helmet in Baldur’s Gate 3 if you’re suffering from the goofy-gear blues.

How to hide your helmet in Baldur’s Gate 3

To hide your helmet, all you need to do is bring up your inventory (“I” by default on PC) and highlight the helmet slot (on a controller, you’ll need to press Y on the Xbox remote, or Triangle on PlayStation).

Right above the slot itself, you’ll find three options:

  • Show helmet
  • Hide during dialogues
  • Hide helmet

The first option will showcase your helmet at all times, including cutscenes/dialogue-driven content, and exploration/combat. The second option will keep your helmet visible while exploring and fighting but will hide it when speaking to other characters. The third option will eliminate the visual element of your helmet entirely. In any case, you will retain the stat lineĀ of the helmet you have equipped: so don’t worry about that.

This option isĀ incredibly useful from an aesthetic standpoint, especially early on when you’re forced to wear some really stupid-looking helmets. Given that looking good is half the game for some people, use this option to your advantage!
