How to hide other players near quest NPCs in FFXIV

Get some space

Arguably, one of the best quality of life updates arriving in Final Fantasy XIV with Dawntrail is the ability to hide players who are clustered around a quest NPC or object. This is a setting that can be turned on or off, depending on your preferences.

Previously, especially during expansions or patches, it can be difficult to locate an NPC in the midst of a huge crowd of players. This is especially true with smaller NPCs or objects. However, this quality of life update will remove this issue, should you choose to turn it on.

Where to find the Hide Nearby Players settings in FFXIV

To turn on your Quest Progression Settings in FFXIV, head to the Character Configuration menu in the Control settings. This feature is found on the General tab, with the two related boxes under the “Quest Progression Settings” header.

You have two options under this feature. You can hide nearby players when approaching, making it easier to locate the NPC or object, but you can also toggle the option to remove all nearby players when interacting with the NPC or object.

This second option makes it much easier to pay attention to an NPC, especially if they are moving during the dialogue scene. These options can be turned on separately or together, depending on how troublesome you find it to concentrate with a lot of other bodies around.

When applied, this setting does not cause players within your party to disappear, although it does make friends outside of your party disappear. This is worth bearing in mind if you’re planning to journey through Dawntrail with friends.
