You can get W-Engines in Zenless Zone Zero through the following methods:
- Pull for them in Signal Search
- Purchasable at Gadget Store Box Galaxy shop
- Buy from the Signal Shop
- Complete Proxy Primers
If you’re feeling lucky, the Signal Search section via the in-game menu is where you should head. Like Genshin Impact, you’ll exchange the designated amount of Master Tape to receive a bundle of random W-Engines. Who knows, you might get your hands on the S Rank types featuring the best-of-the-best items.
On the other hand, you can even the odds by purchasing W-Engines outright. The Signal Shop harnesses a few of them, using the Residual Signal currency. Alternatively, the Gadget Shop holds some W-Engines in exchange for chips. Head toward the Metro Station to browse through the shop’s selection.
You’ll see various types of W-Engines inside the shop, like Slice of Time, Bunny Band, and Steam Oven. To give you an example of one specific ability, the Bunny Band is designed for Defense users, increasing max HP and ATK.

How to upgrade and modify W-Engines in Zenless Zone Zero
ZZZ Agents can be further improved upon by upgrading or modifying a W-Engine. You’ll need to reach certain Inter-Knot Level tiers and garner enough W-Engine Power Sources to unlock these features. That means players must complete quests and progress through the storyline to meet the prerequisites for the upgrade.
Once you’ve met those requirements, select the W-Engine and press the ‘Enhance’ button. It should then increase the engine’s stats and increase its max level cap. However, it should be noted that not all W-Engine enhancement recipes will be the same, so you may need different materials.
