How to get Umbra Forma in Warframe

It's as wild-looking as it is useful.

Once you hit the end game of Warframe, min-maxing your build is the name of the game. While improving your builds is always important, those end-game items and mods push your builds over the edge. Take Primed mods for example, which improve your stats far more than the basic versions of said mods ever could. One such type of mod requires a special (and rare) Forma to use effectively. Here’s how to get Umbra Forma in Warframe.

Where to find Umbra Forma in Warframe

Warframe Nightwave Reward Track

Umbra Forma is one of the most difficult items to get in Warframe, with the methods of getting one being limited and very specific. Those methods are as follows:

  • One is sometimes available within the reward track of Nora’s Nightwave, usually at Tier 29/30.
  • Completing the Mastery Rank 30 rankup test awards three Umbra Forma.
  • Acquiring a blueprint through The Steel Path Honors Shop, found by speaking with Teshin in any relay. This shop rotates weekly, with Umbra Forma available every 6-8 weeks.

You’re most likely to acquire one through the Steel Path Honors shop since 6-8 weeks and 150 Steel Essence isn’t much if you’re at the point of needing Umbra Forma to progress. However, that Nightwave reward can be another great way to acquire some early on. You just need to play Warframe consistently, and hitting Rank 29 shouldn’t be a problem.

When should you use an Umbra Forma?

While you may be excited once you acquire one, you should be cautious about where you slot in an Umbra Forma. Since they’re so rare, you need to use one on gear you’re certain you’ll be using consistently in the end-game. When I used two of mine, I used them for my Wisp Prime build, since I’m confident I’ll be using her as my main frame for the foreseeable future. Keep in mind that Archwings, Archguns, K-Drives, Necramechs, companions, and non-melee weapons can’t use Umbral Forma, since the mods don’t apply to them.
