How to get the TR-40 Golden Eagle armor early in Helldivers 2

To celebrate the release of Helldivers 2‘s first major update, Escalation of Freedom, developer Arrowhead Game Studios is giving away a new free armor set. Some players can get this armor early, though others will need to wait for it to arrive a few days after the early access giveaway.

The TR-40 Golden Eagle armor is a lovely set that’s clearly inspired by the fan art the community has been creating for their beloved Eagle-1. This is the name of the pilot who flies across the battlefield, deploying all the Eagle Stratagems. Don’t confuse them with the pilot of the Pelican extraction ship, who is very much a different character in Helldivers 2 lore and is simply on pick-up duty.

How to get the TR-40 Golden Eagle armor early in Helldivers 2

To get the TR-40 Golden Eagle armor early in Helldivers 2, you must watch the Escalation of Freedom update livestream within the first 48 hours of it being live. The armor will be automatically added to your Steam account after you’ve watched 10 minutes of the stream. The VOD of the stream will play on a loop, so you’ll be able to get this armor at any point during the early access period.

However, if you are a PS5 player, you can’t get this armor early. As a PS5 player, this is a little disappointing. However, it’s understandable that without linking up Twitch Drops or a similar service through the PlayStation Network, which I imagine is quite complicated, it’s just not possible to do this sort of thing on PS5.

At the time of writing I’ve not been able to find any details about the perk on the TR-40 Golden Eagle armor. I don’t believe it has anything unique because that could break the game if it does something outrageous, like give EAgle Stratagems additional power or faster cooldowns. I’ll update this article as soon as I’m able to identify the perk on it, if it has one at all.

The TR-40 Golden Eagle armor will be available to all players on PC and PS5 from August 8, 2024. So even if you didn’t get in on the chance to unlock it early, there’s no need to worry. The armor will be rolled out from 10 am BST/2 am PT, so you’ll likely have it on your account when you log in on the day to spread some managed democracy.
