How to get the Tempest Icon in WoW Season of Discovery

This is the face of a very sad orc.

In a bid to shake things up in World of Warcraft Classic, Dr. Microsoft Activision Blizzard, Heavyweight Champion of the World, introduced Season of Discovery. This mode added a new way of approaching existing content with a seasonal model and Runes like the Tempest Icon.

Each Rune involves some legwork, and the Tempest Icon is one of the first that pushes players. Here are the two different ways to get it.

Where is the Shaman Tempest Icon in World of Warcraft Season of Discovery?

The Tempest Icon is a Relic for Shamans in World of Warcraft Season of Discovery. These Icons allow the class to enhance pieces of their gear after finding the Relic and then completing its requirements. In the case of the Tempest Icon, players must hit 10 PvE enemies with three different elements (Fire, Frost, Nature).

The Tempest Icon unlocks the Water Shield rune which surrounds the player with three globes of water that grant 1% of your maximum mana every five seconds. 4% of your maximum mana is restored when a spell, melee, or ranged attack hits, thus destroying a water globe. This effect does not stack.

The Tempest Icon is found in a chest southwest of the entrance to the Wailing Caverns in The Barrens (44.3, 37.7). The chest is unique and labeled as “Kolkar’s Booty.” To open it, players will need to acquire the Kolkar Booty Key, which is dropped from the centaurs hanging out by the oases.

Both the Key and the Relic have a low drop rate, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t get either right away. Additionally, you’ll want to be extra cautious here, as the centaurs have a quick respawn rate and it’s easy to aggro multiple. The closest graveyard is at the Crossroads, which is a bit of a hike.

Silverpine Forest

Those who aren’t a fan of The Barrens can try their luck hunting Worgen in the haunted woods of Silverpine Forest. In the Deep Elm Mine north of Ambermill (57.4, 44.8) is a named mob, Grimson the Pale. This Worgen with the winter coat has an equally low chance of dropping the Tempest Icon.
