How to get the Onion Sword in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16)

Get the newest weapon from the patch 1.10 update

As part of the 1.10 update to Final Fantasy XVI, Clive can now equip the iconic Onion Sword. While he canā€™t wear the full Onion Knight armor to go along with it (yet), itā€™s still a welcome perk for those playing the game. But how do you get it?

To get the Onion Sword, players will have to clear the main story quest ā€œA Chance Encounter.ā€ This is very early in the adventure, taking place shortly after what most would consider the gameā€™s prologue. With this out of the way, go into your in-game main menu. Select the ā€œSystemā€ tab, and from there, tab over to ā€œRedeemable Items.ā€ This is the icon that looks like a Treasure Chest (pictured below). You should see the Onion Sword here, which will go into your inventory as soon as you accept it.

Thatā€™s all there is to it! Even if you donā€™t equip the Onion Sword, you can use it as a weapon skin by visiting the Arete Stone.

The Onion Sword stats in Final Fantasy XVI

The Onion Sword has a clean 160 Attack and Stagger damage. For those who have progressed a decent way into the game, youā€™ve certainly found better weapons than this. However, for the early game, the Onion Sword is great. This should give you a noticeable jump in power relative to the other options available to you.

Just donā€™t rely on this sword for too terribly long. Youā€™ll want to craft bigger and better weapons to fully unlock Cliveā€™s power throughout Final Fantasy XVI.
