How to get the Necrochasm Exotic Rifle in Destiny 2

Time to hunt some interstellar hyper-predators.

Destiny 2 has, over the years, received a non-insignificant array of weapons and gear from the original Destiny, and Exotics are the cream of the crop. Necrochasm is one of the latest examples of this taking place, but unlocking it is, admittedly, a bit of a process.

There are many reasons why you’d be interested in Necrochasm in the first place, of course. Not only is it recommended that all Destiny 2 players slowly work on filling out their Exotic collections for progression purposes, but Bungie also tends to update/buff certain gear over time. Though Necrochasm might not be the very pinnacle of Destiny 2‘s meta at this time, then, you never know when the tide might turn.

Besides, if you’re even remotely interested in duking it out with Crota in Destiny 2, grabbing the Exotic quest for Necrochasm along the way will be easy as pie.

Unlocking Necrochasm in Destiny 2

As was the case in the original Destiny, Destiny 2‘s Necrochasm is a bit of a living thing. Players will need to nurture and care for it if they wish to reach its full potential, and though that might sound annoying at first, the good news is that “nurture and care” mostly means wreaking havoc and violence from the perspective of a Hive artifact. Here are the steps to get Necrochasm in Destiny 2:

  • Complete the Crota’s End Raid
  • Interact with the Blade of Crota (the Raid vendor item) and pick up the Bottomless Pit questline from it for free
  • Use the newly received Husk of the Pit to kill a grand total of 100 Hive creatures
  • Farm the Essence of the Oversoul resources until you have 20 of them
  • Enjoy the Eidolon Ally, once it unlocks
  • Defeat Crota, Son of Oryx one last time

And then, at long last, the Destiny 2 version of Necrochasm will be yours at last! The odds are good that getting all that Essence of the Oversoul will be a lengthy blocker for many players, mind. Be sure to use the Destructoid guide we linked above to optimize your farming process here, as there are ways to get through it relatively quickly, thankfully.

Tips and tricks to complete the Bottomless Pit quickly(ish)

Destiny 2 veterans will notice that the Bottomless Pit Exotic quest is quite similar to some of the oldest Destiny 2 Exotic questlines, sending players off to complete several different objectives just to progress. The Essence of the Oversoul quest step, in particular, can end up being egregiously long.

Before getting there, though, you’ll need to take your weak Husk of the Pit to kill 100 Hive, and if you’d like to get that done as quickly as possible, too, we recommend going to the Altars of Sorrow on Luna. There, you’ll be treated to an infinite supply of low-tier Hive to slaughter, which will get you through this step of the Bottomless Pit extremely quickly, at least.

Something worth considering as you farm your 20 Essences of the Oversoul is that the Eidolon Ally is a compelling weapon all on its own. As we discussed in our unlocking guide, the Eidolon Ally comes with Necrochasm’s coolest feature, the Cursebringer perk, and it’s a mere Legendary to boot. What this means is that you can lug your Eidolon Ally around alongside an actual Exotic weapon, which is a pretty hefty boon all on its own. You can slap Shaders onto it, too.

Something to consider and, perhaps, ease the pain of farming Crota’s End so much. Oh, and remember: you can luck out during the Crota encounter, as killing the Son of Oryx may drop all the Essence you need to complete the quest. The odds of this happening are, however, appropriately slim. Good luck!
