How to get the Fylgja mount in Final Fantasy XIV

A hero's best friend.

If you’re a Final Fantasy XIV player, you’re no stranger to dragons. They’re a core part of the story as soon as you head into Heavensward, and they remain important from that point onwards. There are a fair few dragon mounts to collect in the MMO, but Fylgja is one of the best.

Fylgja, according to its in-game description, is a descendant of Ratatoskr and has a soft spot for heroes. Having met the Warrior of Light, it decided to stick with them for the foreseeable future. Of course, before Fylgja can escort you on your travels, you’ll need to get it.

Before patch 7.2, the Fylgja mount had only ever been available as the level 25 reward in PvP Series 2, which ran during 2023. That’s great, for those who had a chance to get it at the time, but for those who weren’t around, it seemed like the opportunity was lost forever.

But patch 7.2 marks the beginning of a gradual reintroduction of past PvP Series rewards, which will become available for purchase in exchange for Trophy Crystals, including Fylgja. This is a PvP-specific currency earned through climbing the Malmstone ranks each Series, so as long as you’re taking part in PvP, you’ll be able to get the hitherto rare mount fairly easily.

To get the Fylgja mount, take part in PvP matches of any type and start hoarding any Trophy Crystals you earn. You’ll need to get 14,000 Series EXP to earn the 5,000 Trophy Crystals needed for the Fylgja mount. This sounds like a lot, but here’s how much Series EXP you’ll earn for each type of PvP:

PvP typeSeries EXP
Crystalline ConflictWin: 900
Lose: 700
Rival WingsWin: 1,250
Lose: 750
FrontlineFirst place: 1,500
Second place: 1,250
Third place: 1,000

You’re guaranteed to get experience whether you win or lose your match, and if you’re taking part in your daily Frontline roulette, you’ll also get an additional 1,500 Series EXP each day. It all quickly adds up.

Once you’ve got the 5,000 Trophy Crystals, head to Wolves’ Den Pier and talk to the Trophy Quartermaster (X:4.4, Y:6.1). You’ll find the Fylgja Horn in the “Trophy Crystal Exchange (Other)” category.

Then, all you need to do is use it from within your inventory, and you’ll summon Fylgja to transport you around the world. Remember, you don’t need to stop to summon your mount anymore!
