How to get the Eidolon Ally in Destiny 2 – Weapon Guide

Could a semi-sentient gun-parasite really be your ally, though?

Destiny 2‘s version of the legendary Crota’s End raid from the original Destiny is out and about, and with its Contest Mode all done and dusted, everyone’s got the opportunity to jump right in and snag some awesome Hive-themed loot. Naturally, one of the most desirable of these items is the Necrochasm Exotic, but much as was the case in Destiny 1, you’re going to need to put some work in before the gun is yours. One of the steps you’ll do along the way includes the weapon’s Legendary variant, the Eidolon Ally. We’re here to explain why the Eidolon Ally is great and how you, too, could snag it.

What makes the Eidolon Ally particularly interesting is that it comes equipped with one of Necrochasm’s best Perks – the Cursebringer – without eating up your one allowed Exotic slot. This puts the Eidolon Ally into a unique position where it really is more than just a step towards unlocking the Necrochasm. Instead, it’s a compelling primary in its own right, and a must-have addition to your arsenal.

Unlocking the Eidolon Ally in Destiny 2

The Necrochasm goes through three stages of progression before it grows into its final form, and each of these stages is a weapon in and of itself. The first, then, is Husk of the Pit: a common auto rifle (shaped like a pulse rifle, mind) you receive by completing Crota’s End in Destiny 2 and taking the “Bottomless Pit” quest from the Raid Vendor. As soon as you pick the quest up, the Husk of the Pit will be yours, and you’ll have kicked off the Necrochasm Exotic questline.

Neat stuff, yes, but that’s not Eidolon Ally you’ve got in your hands just yet! The next step will be to equip the Husk of the Pit and go to town on the Hive. You can farm Hive kills anywhere in the system, but we recommend giving the Altars of Sorrow on Luna a shot if you want to get this part of the quest done as quickly as possible. All in all, you’ll need only 100 Hive kills with the Husk of the Pit before the gun evolves into Eidolon Ally proper.

Simple as that! The obvious caveat, of course, is that once you’ve got your Eidolon Ally, you’ll still be a very long way from wrapping up Bottomless Pit and unlocking the Necrochasm Exotic, but that’s a problem for another day.

Why is Eidolon Ally special compared to the Necrochasm?

The thing that makes Eidolon Ally so interesting is, as we mentioned before, that it’s a Legendary weapon with a slightly neutered Exotic Perk. Namely, the Eidolon Ally is a fixed and masterworked auto rifle that always has Perpetual Motion and Rangefinder, as well as the Cursebringer perks. Rangefinder, in particular, makes it extremely proficient at dealing with Guardians in PvP, but Cursebringer is just a load of fun anywhere and everywhere: it allows the Eidolon Ally and Necrochasm to trigger explosions upon Precision final blows, meaning you’ve got a spruced-up Dragonfly/Firefly effect in your pocket.

And, since the Eidolon Ally is a Legendary, you can lug it around alongside a full-fledged Exotic weapon if you’d like, meaning it’s slightly more flexible than the Necrochasm, to begin with!
