How to Get the Biosphere Explorer Set in Destiny 2

How big of a grind is it?

It’s finally happened: after Bungie announced that it had no plans to create a new set of Ritual Destiny 2 armor, the community got riled up enough that the dev had to budge and come up with a quick solution on the spot, and the Biosphere Explorer set is the result. Originally envisioned as yet another Eververse microtransaction, the Biosphere Explorer Titan armor set stands shoulder to shoulder with the Hunters’ Hinterland and the Warlocks’ Ossuary armour sets: Hive-adorned attire that’s going to be a perfect fit for Guardians hoping to snag a more ruggedized look.

This does mean, however, that the Biosphere Explorer doesn’t really look much like any prior Ritual armor set. Whereas these used to be newly produced but relatively plain sets of armor that players could earn simply by playing the game, Biosphere Explorer, Hinterland, and Ossuary designs are, instead, far more aggressive in their design. For better or for worse, they fit in perfectly with the aesthetic of the Season of the Witch.

How do you unlock Biosphere Explorer, Hinterland, and Ossuary armor sets in Season 23?

This is a good news and bad news type of situation, really. The good news is that farming Biosphere Explorer and its sister sets aren’t difficult insomuch as it may well get tiring. Indeed, the grind is real for these sets, as players need to jump headfirst into any of the three core Ritual activities and keep playing them over and over again. More specifically, the only way to get the Biosphere Explorer set is to load up your Titan-class Guardian and play:

  • Vanguard Operations playlist
  • Crucible playlist (including Iron Banner and Trials)
  • Gambit

Further, since these armor sets only ever drop piece by piece, this also means you’re likely to get at least some duplicates before you’ve got the full set.

As most players will engage with the aforementioned playlists quite a lot, though, it is entirely possible that many will collect Biosphere Explorer, Hinterland, and Ossuary armor sets passively in the end.

Can I preview Biosphere Explorer in the Collections UI?

One curious bit that betrays the true (former) nature of the Biosphere Explorer armor set is that you won’t find it where you’d usually find regular Ritual armor in the Collections UI. You can, indeed, preview the bugger one piece at a time, but you’ll need to look for it in the Universal Ornaments section of your Collections, as it was initially designed as an optional microtransaction rather than a full-fledged armor set.

The same goes for the Hunters’ Hinterland and the Warlocks’ Ossuary sets, of course, so you’re free to spin them around and see for yourself whether the grind is worth it in the end! That being said, it may prove to be a lovely change of pace to just run through regular Ritual activities in between Raiding attempts.
