How to get a Tallow Candle in Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV)

While working your way through the Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries side quests in Final Fantasy XIV, you’re going to find yourself wondering where to get certain ingredients. One of these ingredients isn’t new, but procuring it can be confusing.

Tallow Candles are not a new material in FFXIV. They’ve been around since the introduction of Heavensward and are mostly used in low to mid-level crafting recipes, particularly indoor and outdoor lighting items. However, this old ingredient is now a key part of XRral Soj’s Metalwares quests in Dawntrail. 

How to get Tallow Candles in Final Fantasy XIV

Tallow Candles cannot be crafted, regardless of your level or which Master Recipes books you own, and they also can’t be gathered anywhere. As such, your first instinct might be to run to the Marketboard, but this could get expensive – especially considering the fact that you only need six Candles, and they tend to be sold in stacks of 99. 

Rather than throw a large chunk of Gil away on far more Tallow Candles than you need, you just need to do a little traveling away from Tuliyollal and back to the more familiar surroundings of Eorzea or The First. 

There are seven merchants who sell Tallow Candles, costing 225 Gil each, and these vendors are as follows:

• Engerrand – Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X:8.6, Y11.7)
• Fridurih – Ul’dah – Steps of Thal (X:13.7, Y:9.5)
• O’rhoyod – Old Gridania (X:14.4, Y:8.9)
• Pasdevillet – The Pillars (X:7.3, Y:10.6)
• Shirakashi – Kugane (X:12.0, Y:12.7)
• Traveling Material Supplier – The Azim Steppe (X:32.7, Y:29.0)
• Vral – The Crystarium (X:9.0, Y:12.4)

Tallow Candle Recipes in Final Fantasy XIV

Tallow Candles are used in a lot (and I really do mean a lot) of recipes when it comes to crafting lighting options for player housing. However, as stated, the reason you’re likely looking for them is to complete the level 95 quest for XRral Soj Metalwares, ‘A Job Done Quickly’, as part of Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries.

As part of this quest, you’ll need to craft six Lightweight Lanterns. To make each of them, you’ll need the following ingredients:

• 2 Cobalt Tungsten Ingots
• 1 Lar Ingots
• 1 Tallow Candle
