How to get River, Sea, and Cave Jelly in Stardew Valley

You'll need luck on your side

In Stardew Valley, after repairing the Big Tree in Cindersap Forest, your raccoon neighbor asks you to get them smoked fish. While this sounds simple, creating the smoker requires three jellies that are surprisingly challenging to find. Here’s how to get River, Sea, and Cave Jelly in Stardew Valley.

How to get River Jelly in Stardew Valley

You can find River Jelly by fishing in the Mountain Lake in front of the cave mine entrance. While you’ll frequently find fish like largemouth bass and rainbow trout here, you have low odds of obtaining the River Jelly. The jelly appears as a green blob, differentiating it from fish and trash.

Like seaweed or trash, the pop-up indicating you found River Jelly is instant. If you find the fishing minigame instead, this means you found a fish, allowing you to close it and try again until you get the jelly.

How to get Sea Jelly in Stardew Valley

Sea Jelly requires traveling to Pelican Beach and fishing in the ocean. It doesn’t matter where exactly you fish, but I chose to stick to the docks where Willy’s shop is. Alternatively, you can catch Sea Jelly using the Night Market submarine.

Of the three jellies, Sea Jelly is the one I had the most trouble with. While I found River Jelly almost instantly and Cave Jelly after two in-game days, Sea Jelly took me six days to obtain. Even when it feels impossible, keep trying; you’ll get there eventually.

Lastly, you can find the Cave Jelly by fishing on levels 20, 60, or 100. Like the other jellies, Cave Jelly is a rare drop, so you may end up catching recyclable materials or ghost fish, depending on the floor.

While looking for these, I stuck to floor 100 and got it after nearly an entire in-game day, while floor 20 didn’t net me anything. However, this could be bad luck, as Sea Jelly took me triple the time to get.

How to use River, Sea, and Cave Jelly in Stardew Valley

Once you have all three jellies, you can eat them to get various buffs. Below are the stats for each:

  • River Jelly: 75 Energy, 33 Health, +1 Luck
  • Cave Jelly: 75 Energy, 33 Health, +30 Max Energy
  • Sea Jelly: 88 Energy, 39 Health, +1 Fishing

Another use for them is crafting the Fish Smoker, an item that lets you smoke fish. Smoking fish is crucial for unlocking raccoons, alongside being generally helpful for raising the value of your fish.
