When can you unlock Ragnarok in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16)?

You’ll be able to unlock the mighty Final Fantasy XVI Ragnarok far into the game. The weapon unlocks after completing the Blacksmith’s Blues set of quests. The last is the fourth that is unlocked, after the Across The Marrow quest starts. Obviously, you’ll need to finish the first three to get to Blacksmith’s Blues IV.

How to get the weapon

Start the Blacksmith’s Blues IV quest to begin your first steps in getting the Ragnarok weapon. August asks you to join them in Dravozd, which has Akashic forces terrorizing the area. Dravozd is northwest of Tabor and northeast of The Dalimil Inn in the Dhalmekian Republic region. Fast travel there on the World Map. Meet August in the middle of the street. He’ll be facing away from you. An argument will occur between Blackthorne and Zoltan. After that, speak to August once you’re well prepared and have enough Potions on you. You should upgrade them too if you haven’t had the chance before.

Now it’s time to face multiple swarms of the Akashic monsters lurking outside the town. The first wave includes a Level 36 Akashic Bighorn. It should be fairly easy to handle. Avoid its stomps and use Aerial Blast to stagger its stamina meter greatly. Weaker minions like scorpions and leg eaters then emerge; you won’t need any advice how to clear them out.

After that, you’ll face an Akashic Griffin. This should be a cakewalk as well, especially if you’re at a higher level. Avoid its wind-based attacks like a tornado and try to take down its stamina meter quickly. Watch out for its charging attack, however. It eliminates 400-500 HP of Clive’s health. Don’t underestimate the huge winged creature, certainly.

How to beat the Canyon Chimera

The Griffin isn’t the last of your troubles, however. A Level 36 Canyon Chimera appears out of nowhere and fearlessly takes your party on. Be careful of its fire breath and dodge to its left or right to avoid its fury. As the battle continues, it will also launch a few lightning strikes. It’s nothing compared to other bosses like Terminus, but try to watch out for the blue indicators on the ground to detect where Clive should avoid.

Furthermore, the Canyon Chimera has some cheeky moves at its disposal. As it reaches the halfway point of its HP, it will release a wave of ice called The Ram’s Voice. If you see the ground freezing up, run. Additionally, many lightning bolts are sent from above in a short amount of time with the Dragon’s Voice. Stay alert and avoid whatever move comes your way. After a few minutes, the Canyon Chimera is defeated.

Speak to Zoltan and he says he’s thankful. Both Blackthrone and Zoltan reconcile their issues. The former is now welcomed. Now, head back to The Hideaway and speak with Blackthorne. Both Zoltan and your master blacksmith will create the Final Fantasy XVI Ragnarok weapon, “the sword to end all swords.”

How to upgrade to Gottedammerung

After forming the Ragnarok sword, the two blacksmiths give you a new recipe for the Gottedammerung. You’ll need a bunch of resources to make it, including:

You’ll get all of these resources by finishing quests and hunts. Once you’ve collected all of these resources, return to Blackthorne and he’ll create the Gotterdammerung weapon for you. The weapon will have 375 attack power and 375 stagger power. It’s a great force to be reckoned with.
