How to get nanites using Runaway Mould in No Man’s Sky

Your own Nanites farm.

There are several ways to farm nanites in No Manā€™s Sky and one of those methods involves the use of the Runaway Mould. This is one of the resources in No Man’s Sky, associated with special junk elements that exist within the game.

Where to find Runaway Mould in No Man’s Sky

While the method of using runaway moulds to turn them into nanites is easy, the most difficult aspect of this method is actually finding Runaway Mould. While Runaway Mould can be obtained even in some Galatic Trade Terminals at space stations, this method is based upon discovering a Curious Deposit, which gives you Runaway Mould when mined. There is no sure-shot trick to finding Curious Deposits, and it really is a trial-and-error method where you have to look around on different planets for Curious Deposits (indicated by a golden 3-star symbol) in No Man’s Sky.

Now, if you have stumbled upon a location with Runaway Mould, and wondering how to use Runaway Mould to get Nanites in No Manā€™s Sky, here is what you need to do.

How to farm nanites using Runaway Mould in No Man’s Sky

The first thing you must do is build a base computer near the location where you found the Runaway Mould. This is a crucial step in the process, as the resource is pretty hard to find in the place, and if you have stumbled upon this discovery, the last thing you need is to lose track of where exactly you found it on a planet.

Once you have established a base near the Runaway Mould spawn, donā€™t make the mistake of trying to harvest them yet, as they will start to roll away as soon as you try to mine those resources.

Instead, fend off the Runaway Mould by creating fences on all four sides so that even when you try to harvest them, the mould cannot get away, which will save you a lot of time in this process.

Use a multi-tool and harvest the Runaway Mould, and once youā€™re done, build a medium or large refiner. Since we only need to refine Runaway Mould here, there is no need to build a large refiner for this method.

Simply take the harvested Runaway Mould and put it into the refiner, and the refiner will convert it into Nanite Clusters.

This is the overall step that you need to get Nanites using Runaway Mould. Now, the next part of this trick is to make the Runaway Mould respawn again in the same location. This is kind of an exploit in No Manā€™s Sky that has existed for a long time, and Hello Games seems to be okay with players using this trick since it is widely used and has not been altered by the developers. So, don’t worry, there’s no impending ban coming your way for doing this method.

Simply move around 500-600u distance away from where you found the Curious Deposit, and then come back, and the Runaway Mould cluster will appear again. To make this process of travel easier, it is recommended to build a teleporter near the refiner and then another teleporter at a distance which is enough to make the cluster appear again.

After all of this is done, just repeat the process of mining and refining again and again, and you essentially have a farm that can give you unlimited nanites. However, do keep in mind that it takes time for the refiner to process Runaway Mould and turn it into Nanite Clusters. You can save yourself time and effort a bit by setting up multiple refiners to work on the refining process.

There are other steps you can take as well, such as increasing the amount of Runaway Mould you get when refining by installing specific upgrades to your multi-tool that boosts the amount of loot you get.

So there you have it, a Runaway Mould farm that can get you up to 200,000 Nanites per hour in No Man’s Sky, but it is not a passive job, and you need to actively engage yourself in this process in order to earn so many Nanites per hour.
