Pineapples are the pinnacle of summer fruits, and Final Fantasy XIV has added some for its summer vacation expansion Dawntrail. However, the trees from which these Pineapples drop are less pretty to look at and more deadly.
Megamaguey Pineapples are an important crafting material. They’re used to make Cooking Mezcal, which itself is a core ingredient of many high level meals which boost stats, making them perfect for extreme trial farming or upcoming savage raids, or even crafting and gathering.
How to farm Megamageuy Pineapples in Final Fantasy XIV
Thankfully, while the Megamaguey are pretty deadly, they’re relatively low-level enemies in relation to Dawntrail. At level 91, you can take these down right from the beginning, as long as you’ve gained access to Urqopacha.
You’ll find Megamaguey clumped together in one specific location in the northern half of Urqopacha, around (X:18.0, Y:13.0). There’s a relatively large number of them in this area, so you’ll be able to farm Megamaguey Pineapples.
However, the drop rate for Pineapples seems to be pretty low. I’ve averaged one per Megamaguey, with many dropping none at all. So while it might take you a while to stock up, this is at least the only free method to get Megamaguey Pineapples.
How to get Megamaguey Pineapples with Bicolor Gemstones
As long as you’ve completed at least one FATE in Urqopacha, you’ll be able to visit Tepli in Wachumpelo (X:27.4, Y:11.8). From them, you can purchase Megamaguey Pineapples for 3 Bicolor Gemstones each.
If you’ve completed all of the Dawntrail Shared FATEs, you’ll have unlocked access to the two main Gemstone Traders in the expansion’s city hubs. These vendors not only have exclusive items up for grabs, but also become a one-stop shop for all of the crafting materials which were previously available in specific Dawntrail zones.
The two city hub Gemstone Traders can be found in the following locations:
- Beryl in Solution Nine (X:8.4, Y:14.0)
- Kajeel Ja in Tuliyollal (X:12.8, Y:13.0)
Other methods to get Megamaguey Pineapples in Final Fantasy XIV
If you have a Retainer at level 100, you can send them out on level 91 Hunting Ventures. Occasionally, they’ll bring back some Megamaguey Pineapples, although this is far from guaranteed.
Another way to get Megamaguey Pineapples is by running the new level 100 Br’aaxskin and Loboskin Maps. The Treasure Coffers which appear from these Maps will sometimes drop Megamaguey Pineapples, or other materials such as Gomphotherium Skin or Gargantua Hide.
How to use Megamaguey Pineapples in Final Fantasy XIV
As I mentioned, Megamaguey Pineapples are only used for one thing — Cooking Mezcal. To make Cooking Mezcal, you’ll need to be a level 91 Culinarian and have the following ingredients to hand:
- 5 Megamaguey Pineapples
- 8 Fire Crystals
Once you’ve made Cooking Mezcal, you can make the following high-level meals as a Culinarian:
