One of the best pieces of armor to score in The Tears of the Kingdom is Majora’s mask, though you’ll have to work hard for it. The mask lies far in the Depths, and Link has to survive a gauntlet of foes before he can claim it. This guide explains how to get Majora’s mast in Tears of the Kingdom.

Where to Claim Majora’s Mask in Tears of the Kingdom

The mask lies in a treasure chest in the Depths, in a crumbling building known as the Floating Coliseum. It can be found north of the Kogoir Lightroot and the Grove of Spirits. The coordinates are: 1131, -1161, -0499. Before entering the coliseum, it’s a good idea to manually save. Place a Traveler’s Medallion down at the entrance if you have one to spare.

Inside the coliseum, Link is tasked with defeating five Lynels. Fortunately, they are released one at a time. Nevertheless, the challenge is an exhausting one that requires lots of skills and resources. It is highly advised you do not attempt the coliseum until later in the game when Link has better weapons and resources on hand.

There are a few things you can bring along to increase your chances of surviving. Firstly, you need a full inventory of weapons, bows, and shields. Fuse them with powerful monster parts to make them as hard-hitting as possible.

Additionally, bring lots of Gibdo Bones. If you’ve dealt with the Gerudo Desert Regional Phenomenon, you should have a good amount on hand. Pack Bomb Flowers and Puffshrooms as well. Without dozens of these items, the challenge will be much harder.

You’re also going to need plenty of health-replenishing meals. Bring some Gloom-healing dishes as well. These can be cooked by using Sundelions in recipes. Lastly, bring as many arrows as possible. Although Lynels drop arrows when they are defeated, you will need much more to survive all five rounds.

A hundred arrows is a good number, and you can quickly get them by hitting up the various stables and buying them from Beedle. Optional items to also pack include a Lynel mask which disguises Link, and an Ancient Blade to end battles that feel unwinnable.

How to Defeat Lynels in Tears of the Kingdom

Lynels are fast and brutal. They rush at Link and they can break through most shields with one or two strikes. To make matters worse, the Lynels of the coliseum are covered in Gloom, which means they can decrease how many usable heart vessels Link has. Lynels also pack a sword as well as a bow that shoots multiple arrows at a time.

One of the best strategies when it comes to Lynels is to sneak up on them. This can be done by hitting them with a Puffshroom fused to an arrow. While the beast is confused, creep up behind it, mount it, and beat it with your strongest weapon. Eventually, Link will be shaken off, but plenty of damage can be done before that happens.

Alternatively, get some height. There are at least two ways to do this. The first method involves dropping a Zonai spring, leaping onto it, and unleashing a barrage of arrows fused to Bomb Flowers and Gibdo Bones. You’ll have to bring about a dozen springs because the Lynels have a move that destroys all Zonai gadgets. For the second method, run to the perimeters of the coliseum and use Ascend to get to the top of the building. From there, leap down and let the arrows rain.

If you trust your parrying skills, Lynels can be defeated by timing dodges perfectly and chipping away at their health through flurry rushes. This involves getting up close to the monster and hitting it with the strongest possible weapons. Using this method is a test of endurance, but it gets the job done.

How to Complete the Floating Coliseum in Tears of the Kingdom

The Lynels will come in the following order: Red Lynel, Blue-Maned Lynel, White-Maned Lynel, Silver Lynel, and Armored Silver Lynel. As soon as one is defeated, the next one is unleashed, giving Link very little time to recover.

Deal with the Lynels by using the given strategies. Be sure to ration out your meals so that they last for all the rounds. Don’t bother trying to freeze or electrocute the beasts because it won’t work.

Running out of heart vessels? Step outside and take a breather. It’s possible to leave the coliseum and warp back above ground to replenish Link’s health. As long as a Blood Moon doesn’t occur before you return, you’ll be able to pick up where you left off.

If you feel completely stuck, there is a way to instantly kill almost any foe, but it requires a late-game item known as the Ancient Blade. Though they are, quite rarely, occasionally found in treasure chests hidden throughout Hyrule, they can be purchased for 50 Zonaites after all four Regional Phenomena have been resolved. The downside is that the Lynel will disappear along with all its loot, so do not use Ancient Blades if you’re trying to farm for monster parts.

If you manage to survive the onslaught, then Majora’s mask is yours. It doesn’t have much defense, but it does allow Link to not be detected by enemies. This makes it a useful item to have if you don’t have the monster masks from Koltin.
