Fishing is one of the first skills you’ll encounter in Brighter Shores once you step into Hopeport and complete its tutorial quests. Early on, you’ll unlock options like flounder, eel, and pufferfish, but you may not necessarily know where to find them yet.
In other cases, even if you know exactly where to fish them, you might see options like gray eels, lonely pufferfish, or olive flounder instead of their early-level variants. Let’s talk about where you can find lesser eels and how to swap between their lesser and gray forms.
Where to find Lesser Eels in Brighter Shores
Eels are a level two fish that spawn in Eel Street Bridge in Hopeport. You’ll find this area south of Stone Street and Town Square and can access it shortly after completing the goblin tutorial quest. They require level two fishing and a spear from Melv’s Fishing Supplies to catch, so watch your profession level to make sure you meet this prerequisite.
Once you reach level two fishing, head to this location to see a bunch of eels swimming on either side of the bridge. You’ll have to step into the river and catch them by hand, but it shouldn’t take longer than a few seconds per fish.
How to switch between Lesser and Gray Eels
If your fishing level is eight or above, you may have noticed that every eel in the river is named “Gray Eel” instead. How can you get their lesser variants if they turn into grey eels? Fortunately, you can swap the two by selecting an eel, clicking Past action, and picking its lesser version.
There are some benefits and drawbacks to switching between lesser and gray eels. Lesser eels give less EXP per catch, regardless of your level. However, you’ll need some to cook Lesser Jellied Eels for the Chef profession, making it a useful version to catch until you unlock higher-quality recipes.
