How to get ink in Nightingale

Always have some ink and paper on you for Realm Card crafting.

Crafting cards in Nightingale requires getting your hands on ink, paper, and essence dust and using them at the Enchanter’s Focus. While you may already have essence dust and paper, ink is initially a challenge, especially if you don’t have the necessary refinement stations for its ingredients.

How to craft ink in Nightingale

Crafting ink in Nightingale requires obtaining refined pigment and glass after building a mortar station, smelter, and saw table. After building the mortar station, you’ll spot the alchemical ink recipe under refinement, requiring pigment, which you make at the same station, and glass, which you smelt at the smelter.

Building a Mortar Station, Smelter and Saw Table

Making ink requires building three refinement structures: the simple saw table, smelter, and mortar station. Each crafting station requires buying their respective blueprints from an Essence Trader, with the first one you encounter being near the Antiquarian Site of Power.

First, you’ll need the saw table, which you build using the following materials:

  • Eight wood bundle
  • Four stone block
  • Four animal fibre

By now, you’ll have an axe and mining picks to get wood bundles from trees and stone blocks from large rocks. Animal fibre is a resource you get from using raw meat at a tanning station, which you built in previous quests. Use eight pieces of meat at a tanning station to get animal fibre for the saw table.

Next, you need a smelter, requiring the following resources to build:

  • Four stone block
  • Six rocks

This one is the easiest to make of the three buildings needed for ink, as you only need a pickaxe and some large rocks nearby. Break boulders to get stone blocks and pick up small stones on the ground to get rocks before building this structure. While it’s not required for making the mortar station, you’ll need to smelt glass for ink.

Lastly, if you don’t already have a mortar station, you can purchase its recipe from an Essence Trader for 55 Essence Dust and build it using the following resources:

  • Three lumber
  • Eight fibre

Fibre is relatively easy to get, as you can find some by breaking plants around the world. Lumber, on the other hand, requires using wood bundles at the saw table you built earlier. Get six wood bundles from trees and use them at your saw table to get the lumber you need to make your mortar station.

Crafting refined pigment and ink

Once you have your three crafting stations, it’s time to make some ink. To make alchemical ink, you’ll need the following items:

  • Refined Pigment
  • Glass

Refined pigment requires two pigments, which is a complicated way of saying berries, flowers, or mushrooms. To get some quickly, look for nearby berry bushes and mushrooms before using them in the mortar station to make refined pigment.

Next, you need glass, which requires two gems. Travel around until you see large boulders with large clear gems jutting out the sides to obtain raw gems. After getting at least two gems, head to your smelter and melt the gems into glass before returning to your mortar station. Now, take your pigment and glass to make 12 alchemical ink, which you can use alongside paper to make Realm Cards.
