How to get the Sabotender de la Luna mount in Final Fantasy XIV

Those twiggy legs are surprisingly strong

It’s fair to say that there are a lot of mounts in Final Fantasy XIV, but some of them are more worth grinding for than others. The Sabotender de la Luna mount, added in patch 6.5, is one such mount that inspires a desire to grind, but it’s definitely a hard grind, and not for the faint of heart.

There are two methods to obtain the Sabotender de la Luna whistle. Neither of these methods are easy by any stretch of the imagination, and both require an extraordinary amount of luck. Let’s break down both methods.

How to get the Sabotender de la Luna from Faux Hollows

The Sabotender de la Luna mount is from the FFXIV Faux Hollows sidequest series, and it costs 600 Faux Leaves from the Faux Commander’s shop.

Faux Hollows is essentially the Eorzean equivalent of a Lottery scratch-off, except you have to battle extremely tough enemies in Unreal Trials in order to have a chance to win. Or, in this case, instead of cash, you have to fight a god for one lottery ticket. To get the Sabotender de la Luna whistle through Faux Hollows, you’ll need to hoard Faux Leaves allowances every week until you have 600 to spend.

However, if you do get lucky and the Commander tile shows up, you can do this in six weeks. If, and this is a big if, you manage to get the Commander and the Dual Blades in your first attempt, and the Commander also shows up in the second attempt, you could potentially do it in three. However, if you have a regular amount of luck then it might take you a while to save up for the Sabotender de la Luna.

Wondrous Tails is like a cross between Tic-Tac-Toe and, again, a Lottery scratch off ticket. However, unlike Faux Leaves, you don’t have to battle through the Unreal Trial in order to take part.

To pick up a Wondrous Tails book, you’ll need to complete the level 60 side quest “Keeping Up with the Aliapohs”, which can be picked up by talking to the Unctuous Adventurer in Idyllshire (X:7.0, Y:5.9). Once you’ve done this, talk to Khloe Aliapoh in Idyllshire (X:5.7, Y:6.1) and request a new book.

You’ll have a week to complete nine duties and each duty completed will reward a stamp. If you get a line of stamps on the grid, you have a chance to earn better prizes. If you’re very lucky and manage to get three lines of stamps, you have a chance to pick up a Gold Certificate of Commendation.

This Gold Certificate of Commendation can then be given to Khloe and exchanged for the Sabotender de la Luna whistle.
