How to get Dr. Ratio for free in Honkai: Star Rail

HoYoverse has announced that Honkai: Star Rail players will, for the very first time, receive a free limited 5-star character. Here’s how the distribution will work for the new 5-star Dr. Ratio.

The giveaway is a celebration of Honkai: Star Rail’s multiple video game awards this year, including The Game Awards’ Best Mobile Game, iPhone Game of the Year, and Google Play’s Best Game of 2023. Congratulations, HoYoverse! It looks like they’re doing a giveaway in lieu of an acceptance speech.

When can you get Dr. Ratio for free?

Trailblazers logging into Honkai: Star Rail from the start of Version 1.6 to the end of Version 2.1 will receive one copy of Dr. Ratio in their in-game mailbox. Version 1.6 launches on December 27, 2023, but it’s unclear how many 1.X Versions there will be before we get to 2.0.

Players must also have completed the mission The Blue — A Moment of Peace and have access to the in-game mailbox. Luckily, this is very early on in Star Rail’s main story missions, so most players should have this unlocked already. If not, or if you want to start a new account, A Moment of Peace is the third mission in the Prologue sequence aboard the Herta Space Station.

If you want Dr. Ratio’s Eidolons, you can still pull for him too! Dr. Ratio will be on a rate-up banner in the second half of Version 1.6, along with the 4-stars Sushang, Natasha, and Hook. 

The banners on the first half consist of the 5-star Ruan Mei and Blade, paired with the 4-star Xueyi, March 7th, and Tingyun.

Who is Dr. Ratio?

Aside from being perfect meme material, Dr. Veritas Ratio is a 5-star Imaginary Hunt character. He belongs to an in-game faction called the Intelligentsia Guild, an association of academics who seek to spread knowledge. He’s a teacher, but also a bit self-absorbed, if those multiple statues of himself are any indication.

Dr. Ratio’s basic attack smacks an enemy with a book. His Talent damages a single enemy and can trigger follow-up attacks based on the number of status effects on the enemy. His Ultimate deals single-target damage and allows allies to trigger a follow-up attack. Every animation has a mathematics theme, with geometric shapes and figures dancing on-screen.
