How to get Berkanan Sap in Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV)

Sometimes, in new expansions of Final Fantasy XIV, older resources get a renewed sense of purpose as part of high level recipes. If you’re working through Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries in Dawntrail, you might have noticed one such resource.

Berkanan Sap is an Endwalker era resource, mostly used in sub-level 90 recipes, such as the meme-level brilliant Labyrinthos Grape Lamppost. However, it’s now also an ingredient in Cherimoya Juice as part of Xeerol Ja’s Juicecraft.

How to farm Berkanan Sap in Final Fantasy XIV

Berkanan Sap comes from, as the name suggests, Berkanan. They’re a Leafkin enemy found in a specific spot in Labyrinthos, and they’re hard to miss as they’re in the shape of giant, murderous trees.

There aren’t many Berkanan in the area, usually only about five, but they do seem to have a good drop rate when it comes to their precious Sap. They usually drop between one and four Saps at a time, although you may occasionally come across one which wants to take its Sap to the grave and will not drop any.

All of the Berkanan in this area are level 88, so if you’ve got a Job at level 100, you can take them down easily. The quickest way to get to this area is by heading to the Sharlayan Hamlet Aetheryte and traveling directly southeast.

If you do not want to wait for the Berkanan to respawn, you can always head to The Archeion Aetheryte and find the local Gemstone Trader. Faezbroes can be found at (X:29.9, Y:12.9) and he sells Berkanan Sap for 2 Bicolor Gemstones each.

You can purchase Berkanan Sap from Faezbroes even if you’ve only ever completed one FATE in Labyrinthos, but if you’ve completed all of your Endwalker Shared FATEs, you can also purchase it from the two main city Gemstone Traders for the same price.

The two main city Gemstone Traders in Endwalker can be found in the following locations:

  • Gadfrid – Old Sharlayan (X:12.7, Y:10.4)
  • Sajareen – Radz-at-Han (X:11.1, Y:10.2)

There is also good news if you’re hoping to get yourself some Berkanan Sap passively, although it’s not the most lucrative method.

Occasionally, Retainers sent out on level 88 Hunting Ventures will bring back some Berkanan Sap, although the amount will vary depending on their iLvl. Retainers with the Botanist class will also bring back Berkanan Sap from both level 85 and level 90 Fiend Exploration Ventures, bringing back between three and five Berkanan Sap after the 18 hour venture.

However, considering the fact that you can complete a single FATE and then purchase upto eight Berkanan Sap using the Bicolor Gemstones you earned, doing FATEs is still the best way to get a pile of Berkanan Sap.

Although there are a few different uses for Berkanan Sap in FFXIV, there are two stand-out recipes that require it as an ingredient:

Hyper-potions are used to restore up to 20% of a player’s maximum HP (25% if the potion is high quality) and can be incredibly useful in an emergency. To make three of them, you’ll need the following ingredients:

And as previously mentioned, if you’re working through Xeerol Ja’s Juicecraft as either an Alchemist or Culinarian, you’ll need Berkanan Sap to complete the level 90 quest ‘Mon Cherimoya’:
