If you have a lot of animals on your Farm in Fields of Mistria, you’ve likely grumbled at least once about having to do the rounds to get them in or out of their respective buildings with individual bells. If so, you’re definitely going to want the Big Bell.
The Big Bell was added to Fields of Mistria as part of the first major update on November 18. Once placed, it can be used to call all of your animals in or out of their farm buildings, regardless of how many of them there are.
Unfortunately, unlocking the Big Bell is going to be a bit of a grind, but here’s everything you need to know.
How to get and use the Big Bell in Fields of Mistria
The Big Bell can be unlocked by grinding out your ranching level all the way to level 45. When you get there, you can head over to Calderus’ Statue on the farm and unlock the level 45 ranching skill perk “The Bell Tolls” at a cost of 155 Essence.
This won’t just hand you the Big Bell itself, though. Instead, you’ll unlock the recipe to craft it yourself, so you’ll need to head over to a Crafting Bench with the following resources:
- 5 Copper Ingots
- 5 Iron Ingots
- 5 Silver Ingots
- 10 Hardwood
If you haven’t got the necessary resources to make the needed Ingots, you’ll need to head down into the Mines to gather them. Copper Ore can be found in the Upper Mines (floors 1 – 20), Iron Ore can be found in Tide Caverns (floors 21 – 40), and Silver Ore can be found in Deep Earth (floors 41 – 60). You’ll need 50 of each type of Ore before you can use the Anvil outside the Blacksmiths to turn them into Ingots.
The recipe for the Big Bell can be found in the “Functional” section at the Woodworking Bench. Once you’ve crafted the Big Bell, you can place it anywhere on your Farm, then it’s used in the same way as any of the bells on individual Coops or Barns. Just interact with it, then select either “Call outside” or “Send inside” to get the animals in or out.
How to increase your Ranching skill in Fields of Mistria
Even if your ranching skill was at the maximum of 30 pre-update, you’re still going to have to grind out 15 levels, and that takes time and effort. Unlike other skills like Mining or Cooking that can be done as much as you like and increase quickly, ranching is limited to what you can do with the animals each day.
The speed at which your ranching level increases will also depend on how many animals you have on your farm. It’s a good idea to at least fill each building to its full capacity, and once you reach ranching level 40, you’ll unlock Large Coops and Barns to purchase at the Carpenter’s Shop for 6,000 and 8,000 Tesserae, respectively. These buildings can hold 12 animals in each.
Here are some general tips for increasing your ranching skill level:
- Pet each animal every day
- Feed each animal every day (with feed inside the building, hand-fed crops, or allow them to eat crops outside)
- Let them out of the buildings on days with good weather
- Don’t leave them outside overnight
